Legit or dealer non sense?

Hey guys, so I have an 18 maxima sv with 26k miles. I'm currently leasing this car with about 11 payments left. Occasionally I like to check the book value of my car, this is something I've done with pretty much every vehicle I've owned.

Anyway, I happened to check the value of my max the other day and it has a trade in of 18k dollars. I was a bit surprised by this, but whatever. My local nissan dealer is currently offering 20% above book on trade ins. I was skeptical of this, because knowing a dealer, they'd probably give you 20% above the lowest trade in value. My curiosity got the best of me though and I called and talked to the guy that does all their buying/trade ins. I haven't taken my car in for them to look at yet, but he said if the car is in good condition (no major scratches, dents etc) that 20k for trade in probably wouldn't be a problem 😳. Although I still have 11 payments left on my lease, the buyout on my max right now is like 17,900. I've purchased enough vehicles to know when something sounds to good to be true, it probably is. To humor me, I told him to get me some prices on a 21 SR and see if they could get the payment to what I'm paying now. He's supposed to call me today, so we'll see

I think a bunch of dealers are doing this since they are desperate for inventory, especially for the Maxima since its pretty desirable in this market right now. Last time I was getting service done my dealer offered 25% over trade-in value for my 2017 SL. They can still make a decent amount of profit even with the promotion.

I recently checked my 2018 Maxima on KBB and found that trade in was about 2800 above what my lease buy out is.
My dealer also called me and sent me eMail that they would like to buy my car, trade in is high right now. But since they don't have any 2021 Maxima Platinum's
I decided to wait. I have 4 payments left on my lease.

The only way to find out is talking to the dealer.

Good luck and lets us know how you make out.

Dealer seems uninterested. Had them give. Me some prices on a 3 year lease for a 21 maxima SR. Gave me payments in the high 500 range. No Thanks. Not sure what they're smoking. Seriously does ANYONE here pay close to 600 a month for their max? On a lease?

Yes. Platinum Reserve. Bundled in tax, otherwise would have been $30/month less. Residual was brutal.
(2017 Maxima was $440/mo w/o tax)

As a fun side note: the dealer just called me (since I have an oil change on Saturday) saying they'll offer 130% trade in value of my 2017 Maxima SL in addition to other incentives if I look into getting another vehicle. They must really need inventory or something.

Ya, used cars are definitely needed by dealers right now. I don't totally get it either, but if you really wanted to, you could probably work a deal. I'm fine with my 18 maxima for now. May even buy it when the lease ends. We'll see

Yeah there's nothing out really in the Nissan lineup that really compares to our Maximas and the only better tech in the newer ones is maybe more driver assist features post-refresh Nothing to get a car payment over haha. The only other car I'd consider switching to is if they had a used Genesis G70 3.3T or a Lexus IS 350 AWD F Sport and there's no way I'd be able to find a cheap used one at this point in their generation cycles. So that and being happy with my 2017 SL as is means I'm keeping it til the wheels fall off haha

4k to pop in a new transmission at 100k isn’t a dealbreaker for me. I got a good deal for it when I bought it, and the the smoothness and instant power has won me over.

Yup and from what I've seen, if you even get transmission issues, its not until like until like 150k miles. I'm on your side, if the rest of the car is holding up reasonably fine, I wouldn't mind plopping down a few grand to fix any CVT issues that pop up years down the road.

The problem with the replacements....you got to hope you got one that was rebuilt right...and that is difficult..... And 4000 would be a bargain if you got that price
