Ok so now that I've got my car running like a top I'm noticing something else.

There's a considerable amount of time shifting between first and second gear. there's even been a few times that it would bounce off the rev limiter a couple of times before it shifted and it's still a drawn out shift....

is there anyway to have it shift faster or better without replacing the valve body with a performance one.

It sounds like the transmission is slipping. I'd imagine your car is a 4speed automatic?

Does it feel like it's being popped into neutral while driving and then snap back in? Careful not to give it too much gas especially from a dead stop.

After running it for a few, maybe around the block or up the nearest main road and back, take out the transmission oil dip stick and smell it, if it smells bad/burnt, it may be time to replace it.


You can rebuild it but it would be cheaper to replace it than having it rebuilt.

That would be the worst case scenario tho. It could be something as simple as low tranny oil or even bad tranny oil which would require a flush.

Anyone else with more experience can chime in with further details. Hope my advice helps tho.

on my 03 altima they are common for the hard shift due to the shifter solenoid ground coming loose.

Have to drop the tranny pan, and re sauder the ground. Its not that hard to do, and you have a chance to put in a fresh tranny filter and fluid too.

What you describe also happens to me from time to time between 1-2 shifts when I'm at WOT. Don't have to replace the valve body. Just install a Transo HD2 kit...will help. But, honestly, it's not going to completly resolve this issue for you. My understanding is that what you describe is ultimately symptom of worn/failing shift solenoids.

There is a TSB from nissan for the issue very common.

I had the same issue and replace my solenoid and tcm per the tsb and it shifts fast from 1 to 2nd now no long delay at full throttle between those gears.

Since that tsb came out there is a updated tcm again but if you go to nissan with that part# they will give you the current updated model.

The tsb id for the 00-01 put they will give you the correct parts for the 02.

Ok so my fluid is still like new and full. The previous owner said he had the transfer flushed a week before I bought it that was back in September.

Its a Maxima 4AT thing bro, mine was doing it 2-3, wont happen anymore thought I found a sure fire fix.

Omg if I could afford a 6mt swap I'd do it in a heartbeat... There's someone on here only like 100 miles away selling a complete swap kit.... Everyone has hopes and dreams right! Lol
