2001 max, bypassing the immobilizer

Ok, I am looking to buy a 2001 max that looks in good shape.
One thing I would like to do right off the bat is find a way to use a regular key instead of the immobilizer key. Yes, I did search for this and found a nice flame war related to this topic. But no real answer. Can I tape an immobilizer key under the steering lock and then use a regular key in the lock? Will it be reliable? Can my local friendly dealer use their Consult to turn the immobilizer function off? Is there a mod I can use to do this myself?
All these questions and more...
And tia for help here...

Nope, nothing at all aside from *possibly* turning your 01 into a 98 (ECU, emissions, and all that other ish would be different), and that wouldn't do you any good.

Why do you want to bypass something that, for all you know, works perfectly fine? The 99/00 maximas had the brunt of the immobilization issues, not 01. Besides, it's not like they fail all of the time...my 99 has yet to fail *knock on wood*

Other than I also wonder why you want to do this, you should be able to tape a key (or just the chip itself) on top of the NVIS box. NVIS = Nissan Vehicle Immobilzer System. Take the plastic covers off from around the steering column. Looking at the ignition key cylinder, there is a box behind it in the 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock quadrant. This is the NVIS antenna & circiutry.

the wire connector you see in the photo is not part of NVIS.

If you take the car to any licensed repair shop and ask them to disable the immobilizer -
A) I don't know if that is even possible, and
B) If they should happen to do it, ask them how much money they will pay you to not turn them in to the cops. It is illegal to do something like that.

I believe its built into the ECU so the only solution is to:

A) Trick the computer into thinking that the key is always there by attaching the chip to the system like stated above.

OR

B) Use a different ECU without that system to run the engine, specifically pre '99 maximas or a use standalone ECU

I don't really see the benefit to doing this other than being able to buy a key for $4 as opposed to $200 but then again how often do you lose your car keys? The only time I've ever had an issue with the immobilizer was when I two different maxima keys on one keyring so the immobilizer didn't recognize the right one and wouldn't let the car start.

I tried doing this after my original key would no longer turn. The internal parts of the cylinder locked up or something so I changed my ignition cylinder and my car wouldn't start. I ended up paying a locksmith to program the new key (I paid a pretty penny for this ($200~). Made me hate Nissan ever since..

a) anything is possible, just a matter of how much money you plan to spend on this.

b) it is not illigal, where did you get that idea from?

Just a side note, if the car ever got stolen and insurance found out to removed the immobilizer... You'd be FUC*ED

I don't think its worth the risk. You got too much to lose.

my immobilizer was bypassed when Nisformance flashed my ECU. I only need the chipped key to prigram keyless entry remotes so I keep it in a safe place...
