starts but won't stay running - 2002

02 - 5th gen Maxima - starts but won't stay running. it will only idle barely for about 10 secs and die and will not respond to throttle. No codes.

Because I could not test the fuel pressure and went on a hunch and got a pump and strainer. They did not have the filter assy. I put that in and it did not change. I am going to get a Nissan filter from CP as they are cheap. It had a lot of small debris coming out of it when I was assembling but I do not think that alone would cause the problem I have.

I was able to jury rig a pressure guage on the pump outlet and got 43 psi but I would rather have connected that with a t connection in running condition. I don't know why Nissan didn't have a connector.

Am I chasing the wrong thing here? I also clean the MAF sensor. I still think its fuel related.

ok since now you know its a MAF problem you will notice that MAF sensors for a 2002 are maddd expensive. well don't worry there is a solution. do not ever buy a aftermarket MAF sensor because you will waste your money, happened to me 2 times. you gotta get a original nissan maf sensor but a 2002 sensor is like $442. so you gotta get the maf sensor for a 2000-2001 maxima, its like $90. i think this is the sensor i found it on courtesyparts.com

im pretty sure thats the sensor, and once you get this sensor you uninstall yours and you transfer over a little thermistor thing from the old sensor onto your new sensor and your good to go. look on the org there is a whole post about this and how to do it. save yourself the money and get the right part you will be happy.

I had already ordered the aftermarket MAF sensor from Ebay and just got it and plugged in and it seems to run ok. What will happen now ? The aftermarket had no thermistor

Swap over the therm from your old maf and solder it in place they hardly ever go bad

The ebay seller responded that it did not need a thermistor. But I already soldered the old one on the new one. I may take it back off per seller instructions and see what happens. Its running good again.......

Does it matter if my maxima is a 3.5l not a 3.0 for this to work, using a 2001 MAF on my 2002?

My 19$ EBAY MAF lasted about 4 months and just **** on me this am at 5:20am, so spending the 90$ and soldering thermo is worth it.
