How to torque the crank pulley bolt?

How to torque the crank pulley bolt?
I removed my crank pulley today to replace the oil seal and replace the pulley. (Dorman part from amazon) How do you guys torque the pulley bolt? I read the instructions in the FSM about marking the pulley and turning the bolt 60 degrees...but I don't feel comfortable locking the flywheel teeth with a screwdriver for that method. I was thinking about just putting some blue threadlocker on the bolt and using my air gun.
I'm just curious how you guys do the deed...

The last two things you want to do to that bolt would be:
1) tighten with an impact gun.
2) thread lock it in place.
Your bolting a key component to your crankshaft, which is a very important piece of moving mass inside your engine. Follow the FSM instructions, thank us later.

How do you lock the flywheel well with a screwdriver? I tried this method for removal, and it was cumbersome and seemed flimsy. (I ended up doing the starter bump technique to remove the bolt)

If your axles are still in the tranny then the tranny will hold the engine from turning as long as the wheels are on the ground. If they are not, get someone to step on the brakes.

I had someone get in the car put it in 5th gear and hold on the brakes . that was per the instructions i saw online for someone who had the udp put on his car . and it worked for me on my gf,s 2000 maxima . And they said 140ft and that is probly close to working out to what the fsm says . just seen you are automatic hmmm . i tried to put something in the access for the flywheel but didnt have any luck in stopping it from moving it

Yeah, I have an automatic...and I tried to lock the flywheel through the access hole, but the flywheel teeth are too small. I didn't want to mess up anything either. I'll try the brake technique. I'm waiting for the new pulley to come in the mail today so I can get this job done.

you can brake the transmission by holding it in gear and smashin brakes trying to loosen the harmonic balancer, so keep that in mind when doing so. I read about it and ive done it on a honda civic. as far as tightening them on a auto which i know is a pain in *** i just drop the motor a few inch's if needed and use a strong impact gun and impact it on and use some permanent thread lock seal the red kind.

it should hold. Im doing an underdrive pulley on the 25th(around) and will have my mechanic do it this first time. Ill report back with pics and a how-to per him. Doesnt help you now lol but will help future readers

Holy crap there is some bad advice.
An auto uses fluid to, in dumb downed terms, connect the wheels to the motor. How is stepping on the brakes going to help? It wont. Yes putting a manual trans in gear and then stepping on the brake can work. Its all connected mechanically in that case.
Torque the bolt to 29-36 ft lbs then turn it 60 degrees. I'd suggest a strap wrench to hole the pulley.

I'm now in the same exact position...That extra 60-65 degrees is a real b!tch to achieve! I am using a sears plastic strap wrench and its not strong enough, probably will return that and pick up an aluminum strap wrench instead. OR maybe I can justhave someone put the brakes on and put her in fifth as mentioned above? The car is about 18" off the floor.
