VQ35HR cams swap
I have been searching but I cannot find the info I am looking for.
Can I use the HR cams, springs, and retainers in the VQ35DE? I plan to drop this into a 4th gen Maxima. If it is possible, any help or link to the correct steps needed to do this would be great. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Just what I needed to know. Any write up on this?
I have a fully built engine in one car and just wanted some extra power and revs for the other. So no real need to spend money on the big cams. Thanks again.

HR cams in DE
I just though instead of posting a brand new thread to just reuse this one. I'm sorry if I am in violation I apologize. I searched and this thread was the best one that talks about it.
I was also wondering, since the HR cams' intake and exhaust duration is 248/248, and the DE is 238/240 iirc, then they will provide a bit more hp?

oh. OK thanks, but you say that REVUP cams are a bit more aggressive than the HRs and easier to find but I cannot find them. I can however get a good deal on the HR cams and wanted to know if I should get them or wait until the revups can be found? I want to stay NA. If I do decide on the HR cams, what other internal components would I need aside from HR springs? Would the stock DE pistons be okay to use or should the HR pistons be used instead?

There is very slight difference between the revups and HRs. The HRs are better for boost compared to the revups because of the overlap but its not something thats going to make a truly NOTICEABLE difference. You will have a slightly more lumpy idle with the Revups and that's pretty much why they are better in most of our eyes.

If I put the HR cams into the vq35de, it will make a little more hp and tq that say the stock cams, that's a given. But what else would need to be changed, like pistons, valves, etc or can I get away with using the stock ones?
I understand that if going the HR piston route that the HG will need to be brought up to 0.04" for clearance.

Well you need to learn more about cams if you don't understand lumpy idle. And nothing needs to be changed to run these cams. Its not worth the effort if you have a VQ35 with stock cams in it.

Should If i use HR cams and if I use the HR pistons what extra HP will I see over stock? I'm shooting for 250HP at wheels, nothing too major.
Thanks! And i apologize for the lack of term knowledge. I'm just excited a bit is all.

Just seen this thread, just to clarify for anyone searching.
You CAN use HR cams on a 3.5 running 3.0 timing.
BUT if you are running a older gen 3.5 with 3.5 timing then NO you cant run HR cams as the trigger wheel is different and it will not work with the older cam sensors.

The person I bought the engine from took the time and made a custom pallet and strapped it down securely. He wrapped it up with seran, and it was a great packing job.
BUT When I got it, it was on its side, sorta thrown on a different regular-size pallet. Unstrapped. Somewhere along the shipment the engine took a bad fall. This bent the power steering pump out of alignment with the ud pulley. A motor mount was bent, (now straightened out), and oil and water/coolant was all over the entire engine. I was pretty upset. so I want to tear it down just to inspect it before putting it in the car. (I don't know if there's hairline fractures or what else on the block.) So while I'm in there providing that it's okay, I thought why not build it up a bit? I've searched a lot, and I am finding a lot of info. I'm confident that I can rebuild it! I'm just on a budget, but I filed a claim and hopefully I will get money back!
I see someone running the HR pistons on stock DE cams and he got a little more power. I'm just wondering what the HR cams would bring to the table with the HR pistons. I know that the HR pistons are a bit higher than stock pistons and they have slight clearance issues. So a larger head gasket is required.

I just got Cyl1 at TDC, all the markings on the main chain line up with the arrows and crankshaft, and I believe it's at TDC on the compression stroke. Is there a Problem if the cam lobes are both pointed towards each other, just not at the degrees to where they would point directly at each other.

I just got the HR cams installed, with no tune, It starts with high idle but I think thats another issue.
I was told that I need to adjust the timing? (Also I'm using HR pistons) A stock 99 3.0 ecu. Any help here? Would I be ok with just a WB and safc, or any other suggestions?
