Egr flow?

Okay so I got the code p0400 for an EGR Flow Malfunction but I recently replaced the egr valve with a new one. So could it be something else? Or does the code just mean the valve? Thanks

So I did a search for "egr flow malfuntion" and found my old thread so i'm going to bump it for laughs since i'm STILL having the same code come up every few months.. When I get all the tubes cleaned the code will go away but 3 months later (+/- a month or so) it will come back. The code came on 4 months ago again but I said "f*** it i'll deal with the cel for a little" but then it just went away for no reason.. And now the light came back on. Is this normal? Lol. Ideas?

The egr valve RARELY goes bad. Cleaning the tube usually solves the issue. Sometimes a sensor will throw it off as well

So does removing the bulb, looks less tacky. But fixing the problem is the best idea.

How do I get the tube from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve off on my 99 Maxima? It is easy to disconnect from the EGR valve, but how do I disconnect the other end from the back of the engine block so I can clean out the entire hose?

Run a bottle of chevron techron in the fuel tank. Might take two applications.

Next try Seafoam.

Manually cleaning out the tube should be last resort.

Either way tho, u need to clean the tube. Chevron and Seafoam should help do that.

So what is the fluid being circulated through the EGR on the 99 Maxima? It comes in and goes out through the little black hoses on the middle section of the unit. Looks like engine coolant. Is hat what it is? Is it just measuring the temp of the coolant?

naw man.

EGR = exhaust gas recirculation system. Its too keep the combustion chamber at optimal temps. Exhaust gas is recirculated back into intake through that tube. the buildup is unburned carbon from burning cheap *** gas.

The chevron may be able to remove it. Seafoam may do a better job. The last resort is to manually take of the tube and clean it. This will require some work.

Click here to see a picture of my EGR valve:
http://www.advanceautoparts.com/1/3/...-i30-egr-valve

So in the picture, there are two small black hoses attached to the middle (silver) section. When I pull them off, a green liquid spills out. There is no buildup at all in these hoses that I can see. Are you saying that this green fluid should not be in there? A significant amount spills out every time I remove these hoses. On the bottom section of the valve I can see where the exhaust circulates through, but I am talking about the middle section. Thoughts?

Your new man so im not gonna flame.

Use the SEARCH.

THere are Soooooooooo many threads about your exact issue. You will find way more info from searching than jus my replies.

read this how to thread:

or

http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ing-p0400.html

You shd be good after.

Again, manually cleaning out the tube should be last resort. Try the chevron and Seafoam first. I contend that if u use the techron regularly u will never have that kind of build up issue.
