Brake pedal feel/booster

Ok so I just came from a '13 Altima and the first thing I noticed about my Maxima is the brake feel is awful! I get 30% travel before initial bite then it's press hard to stop. Modulation of the pedal is difficult. The pedal on the Altima was MUCH better giving maybe 10% till bite then a linear grab.

Have any of you experienced this? What is the fix?

I posted complaints about the brake feel in my 2011 some time back and got little response other than me to! There just isnt much travel from nothing to all in in my opinion. I have become used to it, stops well, but sometimes too fast.

I didnt find any technical bulletins or anyone with a way to improve them.

You will get use to it....I went from a 2000 Camry V6 to a 10' Max and had the same first impression....for about 1/2 hour then realized there was no comparison to the Max for stopping ability.

I prefer a firm, responsive master but this is soft and spongy. I rented a '09 in '08 and did not have this impression back then. I assume something has been changed? Are there any other master cylinders that will provide a more direct pedal feel? This feels like my old '74 Coupe De Ville.

When I first got the car, I thought it was completely opposite of what you are describing OP; it always seemed to bite really well and early. But over time, either I got used to it, or the car adjusted itself to my braking style. I am not sure if the Electronic BrakeForce Distribution system is also a cause for the strange feeling or not here either.
I upgraded from a 1999 Maxima btw.

I can suggest that you brake the same way over and over and the car will adjust itself to you, or adjust to it.
Perhaps your brakes are worn? If your car is new, then there is obviously something wrong here. Sorry, cannot offer much more help beyond this.

Maybe take it to your dealer. Could be air in your brake lines and they just need to be bled. Your profile says you've got a '13 max, so have them inspect it since anything they'd do to it is under warranty. Haven't seen more than a couple of complaints on here about spongy feeling brakes, so it's not normal.

If you want a firmer pedal response than factory, upgrade to Goodridge stainless steel brake lines. At any given time, I can throw everything on my seats onto the floor.

I'm sure the SS brake lines would firm up the pedal, but I still think that something's gotta be wrong. The OEM brake lines should still give a firm response with good pedal feel. If you have your dealer check it out and they say they can't do anything, maybe then think about upgrading the lines.

Or just get em anyway if you feel like stopping like a boss.
