2009 nissan maxima SPOILER INSTALL

I GOT THIS SPOILER OFF OF EBAY FOR 125 PAINTED AND SHIPPED TO MY HOUSE. IT CAME ALREADY PRE-TAPED AND WITH INSTALL DIRECTIONS. I DECIDED TO DO IT MYSELF AND IT WAS NOT THAT HARD. IT USUALLY TAKES A PROFESSIONAL LIKE 1-2 HOURS TO DO AND IT TOOK ME 5 HOURS. MEASURING WAS PRETTY TOUGH BECAUSE IT NEEDED TO BE EXACTLY CENTERED CORRECTLY. I WIRED UP THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT AND HID ALL THE WIRES FROM SIGHT. I DETACHED THE ORIGINAL BRAKE LIGHT AND IT IS NOT NOTICEABLE SINCE I HAVE EXTREMELY DARK TINT IN THE REAR WINDOW. HERE IS THE PICS OF THE INSTALL... POST SOME FEEDBACK OR QUESTIONS.

i got it off of ebay...i think they guy has it for 110 now... he does an excellent job on the spoiler

the color is the exact match to the car. he uses the same dupont paint that nissan uses. easy installation but i would have pro do it if your are not 100% sure u can do it your self

I think the back window brake light needs to come out as well. Spoiler looks good though. It is for sure the one "gotta have" thing on the 7th gen.

to get the pictures to post, perhaps try deleting all of the crap after the .jpg in the file path?

Instead of this:

Try this:

Does the following picture show up for all of you?

once again im asking if you have to drill any holes into the trunk for installation or the 3rd brake light?

The quick answer is yes you do have to drill a hole in the trunk lid for the spoiler 3rd brake light. The upside down picture in the previous post shows three clips for the attachment of the spoiler plus the wire for the 3rd brake light.
The diagram of the instillation of the spoiler in the Factory Service Manual shows two clips and a third hole for the 3rd brake light that is grommeted.
The harness connector for the brake light is on the backside of the trunk lid.

Now, I would like to know the name of the vender on ebay that sold the spoiler to jundi3391

So I bought a painted spoiler off eBay back in December when I purchased the car ($110) and I'm now getting around to installing it. However, it didn't come with a template and wasn't taped around the corners like the one Jundi posted above. Does anyone have the template needed to install the spoiler? I took it to a Nissan tech to do the job on the side, but he was reluctant because the mounting holes didn't match-up with Nissan's template. The spoiler I purchased had five mounting holes (two in addition to the usual three). It looks like it could be installed with just three, but he was hesitant. I thought that was strange, but whatever . Any help? I'm tired of looking at my max without a spoiler.

I have asked this question earlier but doesn't seems like he's going to share the info.

I found this seller on ebay sale the spoiler that will line up with the factory holes.

I purchased mine from that seller (auto-spoilers-and-trim) in December and it didn't come with a template and wasn't pre-taped. Might not be the same seller jundi purchased from

I'll see if I can find my link to where I bought mine. It did not come pre-taped, but was easy to install. Yes you do have to drill a hole to tape the OEM third brake light along with the other five holes that hold the spoiler on. I thought about getting away with three, but would hate to see a spoiler fly off my car driving on I-35 headed to Austin one morning)

Thanks for the update, jboss . From the FSM, it appears that the factory spoiler mounts with just three screws (as there are only three holes) and the other two are clips. But I guess as the saying goes---better safe than sorry. Those clips are there for a reason.

Any advice on mounting it? Did your's come with a template or did you just eye-it to make sure it line up correctly?

I wonder if there any other kind of spoiler that looks good on the maxima beside the factory style one

Yes on mine there was a template. It still needed a little "eye balling" for my standards to make sure it was dead on, but not much. Mine did not come with clips just five mounting points which were heavy screws with a hex head. Very sufficient for securing this aftermarket spoiler in my opinion. The install is no where NEAR as in depth as the one shown in the video on the link once you get to the Maxima OEM spoiler.

www.carid.com is where I bought mine. painted was $169 i think.

I would like to see Jundi's pic again to make sure there were individual LED's. Can't tell from his pic.

for those of you installing a spoiler, what are you doing with the stock third brake light behind the rear seats between the speakers? Are you disconnecting it and removing it? Just disconntecting it? or leaving it conneted?

I disconnected mine, but left it. With my tint you can't see it. If you remove it you will have a hole in your interior around where it used to be.

Cause it was the closest we have to instructions after someone has done this.

Yes, it would be nice if he did a better writeup to add to his photos, but the pre installed photo's show the tape areas (which looks like the super sticky 3M tape) and looks like 5 screw points and a hole to drill for the wiring. Most of these come with layout templates as well which gives quite a few folks enough info to do their own.

So, until someone else comes up with a better step by step, this is all we have.
