Tire Size for 20 inch Wheels Rims - What is the largest?

Tried to search for a thread for this topic...

What is the largest tire size that will fit on a 20 inch wheel for the 7th Gen?

The standard size is 245x35x20.
I want to go with a 245/40 or 245/45 series tire. Can I do this without rubbing? Anyone out there who has larger than a 35 series tire on a 20", please post some pics.

First of all, you need to specify the width of the rim... Is it 20x8.5 or what? Give all the details and take time to search the forums or look at member's sigs. You will see a lot of 20s and the sizes they run.

A lot of factors go into deciding how big of a tire you can run. Some of the factors are:

How wide the wheels are?
Offset and back space?
Lowered or stock?

The wheel will be 8.5 inches wide. No spacing, so it will be a stock offset for an 09'.

Car will remain at stock ride height.

I think if your getting 20s you need to stick with a 245 35 or so. If they aren't close to low profile tires it's gonna look goofy

ck your tire widths and size with tire calculator. do a google search for tire calculator. there are many out there. this will tell u how much your speedo will be off or correct..

for the record i did 245-35-20 so my speedo was perfect...

hey whit, how is the ride affected running on the 35's versus the stock ride? I'm also interested in putting 20's on my 09 Max. S in the Spring.

You are going to feel the road a lot more. Less tire, rougher ride and bad if you have rough roads around where you live. Could be bad on the rim of the wheel if you er hit a pot hole with such a low pro tire.

Keep in mind, just because your not using spacers, does't mean your 20" wheels are a stock offset. Factory offset is 50mm. I would think a 50mm-35mm would be safe. Mine are 20x9 w/a 38mm offset. I run 255-35-20's. Tire circumference is 27.02". Stock 18's is 26.68", stock 19's is 26.72" and the 245-35-20's is 26.76" and 245-40-20's is 27.72". Hope this is helpful.

You are within recommended rim with, which is a width 0f 8.5 to 10inch. So, it should fit fine. But, you want to make sure your offset is good too. What is your offset?

67whitegoat's rim is 20x9 with a 38mm offset and he runs 255-35-20's. So, people have alreadt done it.

I have no clue what my offset would be, I'm assuming it would mirror the factory setup but I would have to ask when I bought the rims, I used the same company when I purchased wheels for my denali and they fit perfect so I'm assuming that the based on my make and model they will determine that for me

You will absolutely want to check the off set of the rims first. Not all rims come in an off set that will work for your set up....unless they are forged and built to order.

Time to buy new tires. I think I am going to do 255/40/20 and see how bad they rub on full hard turns. I think the extra tire height will help fill the wheel well and give me some extra cushion for the Indiana roads.

It looks like another option could be 245/40/20, but I like how my current 255/35's fit the width of my wheel pretty well.

Yes I did! Love them. Sometimes they will rub slightly on one side while in reverse and wheel turned all the way hard left. No biggie though. Highly recommend it.

I'm super interested in this as well. I've got 20x9 with a +18 offset. I'd like to fill up the wheel well a bit more, and maintain a smooth ride. I don't plan to drop it if possible because of the crazy winters here.

Has anyone else done a 40 or 45 tire on a 20" rim?

I know the speedo will be off, don't really care. Thanks for the help!

Ya... I'm wondering about stock height and going larger than a 35 series tire. Does anyone have any experience with that?

A 40 series would fit, but your speedometer will be off. Don't know about a 45 series, but I would think that you could run into problems.
