Fairly large streaks on windshield only when raining and using wipers
Ever since the day I drove it off the lot, there are these streaks on the windshield that are only visible when it's raining and I'm using the wipers. I've probably washed the car 20 times since I got it in June but those steaks haven't budged at all. I even tried some Zaino glass polish that I had on the shelf and didn't seem to help. Obviously one of those very minor but pesky issues and was just wondering if anybody else had it? Only thing I could think of was maybe it could be that wrap that they use on the cars when they are delivered to the dealers (if they even do that with our cars).
ive noticed this as well, its kinda funny cause it was raining this morning and i said to myself these wipers suck, i clean and clean the wipers and my windshield over nd over again but still leaves streaks

i don't believe my issue has anything to do with the wipers. it's more of something on the glass. i believe you could put any wipers in the world on my windshield and would see these large streaks every time the wiper passed over those areas....really weird.
I have the same issue and of course the streaks are right in front of my face. I thought it was something on the window or wiper but I can't see or feel anything on them. I read the other thread on wipers and just installed the Bosch Icons this morning. I haven't tested them yet but it is supposed to rain in the next few days so I will post back and let you know the results.

I had the same problem Robert. I switched out the wipers to a different set that were rain-x coated and the problem no longer exists. Not quite too sure if it was the thin layer of Rain-X or just the wipers itself but I am pretty sure it wasn't the windshield itself.
NCSU...yes, please do report back on whether the Bosch wipers make any difference. I just can't imagine different wipers making any difference because my stock wipers are wiping the rain away completely and cleanly....not like when wipers are not doing a good job and leaving a different kind of "streaks"...mine are apparently something that has gotten on the glass from the factory or in transit. I'm tempted to try either Rain-x or the Rain-x coated wipers that Mreim769 mentioned. Do aftermarket wipers still have the same unconventional design as the stock ones (big floppy rubber things) or are they more traditional?
FWIW, I've had both Icons and Valeo(Ultimate) blades and vastly prefer the Valeos - not even close. Not sure if they have an application for 7th gen though.
gizzsdad....i tried zaino's version of that glass polish (see link below) but didn't seem to make any difference. of course, i was only polishing it by hand and didn't work it in with a buffer, etc. so i might give it one more shot when i get some tim.

First day with rain on the Icons and the window is 100% clear - no more streaks. These wipers are much better than the factory ones. I was also hesitant that the wipers would fix the issues, but the did! Best $37 I spent so far!
NCS...sorry for my ignorance on wipers...but for the $37, is that just wiper inserts or replacing the whole stock assembly with new wipers? I can't BELIEVE that fixed your issue My streaks aren't even in the same direction as the wipers move..they are up and down in big patches.
That is the whole wiper...yea I hesitated to spend that much and only after having the car for 6 months...but so many people said it fixed their issue I had to try it. I tried cleaning the window and wiper with solvents and cleaners but nothing worked. For me it was a safety issue (and giant annoyance!) since it blurred the window directly in front of me.
finally got a chance to use the stock wipers on the max, and have no problems at all. Works great; gonna order the icons and stock em so i can get the rebate.
It's funny how I read these posts and then notice the same thing a day or two later. I just noticed the streak on the windshield while it was raining today. Not really an issue from a viability standpoint but noticeable when looking for it. It's probably the result of something that was applied to the windshield at some point because the wipers don't rest in that position.

yes! it's not where the wipers rest and isn't even in the direction of the wipers or anything...mine are mostly just vertical with a slight curve to them on the way down. i'm thinking maybe some kind of wrap or sticky stuff that's covering it at the factory or the big lots where they stage them, or in transit or SOMEthing that's why i've been so hesitant so far to try new wipers because the stock ones seem to be doing their job perfectly...nice, clean passes and not leaving any streaks, etc. but these are like just something that's on the glass.

Do you have a windshield coating along the lines of a Diamond Kote? Maybe it was applied incorrectly?
i have no idea about a window coating? i haven't done anything to it myself if that's what you're asking....bought it new in june and it's been like that every time it rained since i drove it home.

I am talking about the dealer puting a protective coating on your windshield before you took posession. Similar to a paint protection coating. I had them put a protective coating on my windshield to help reinforce it from rock chips. I was trying to explain if they did do this then they might have botched it up (gasp! not a dealership!) hence the streaks you are experiencing.
if that's indeed what we're dealing with here (the protective coating from the dealer) we should be able to find out one way or another what effectively removed that stuff i would hope. i know it's fairly minor, but i'm determined to figure it out and get back to a perfectly clear windshield when it rains
these looks like great wipers, and i might get them even if i didn't have this issue with the streaks, but i'm still trying to understand how, if this issue is indeed just "something" on the glass, how could different wiper blades make that "go away"?
Autoglym Glass Polish or 1z are the products I have tried. Did you use the zaino polish by hand or machine? Machine would be the best way to apply the polish. After that is done a nice coat of glaze on your windows will give it that nice reflective look and keep the windows easier to clean.
i applied the zaino by hand, but worked it in pretty good on a small area just to see if the streak would budge. I may try it with a buffer just to see what happens....I"ll report back here if I do. when you say to apply a nice coat of "glaze" afterwards, what do you mean exactly?
I'm not sure there is any "residue" on your windshield. Try the Bosch Icon's and report back. I use Zaino's glass polish, and it made no difference with the stock wiper blades. Changing to the Bosch's solved my wiper problems. I did get the $15 mail in rebate as well posted on their website-- even more reason to go out and buy the Boschs.
if you feel there isn't any residue on your windshield one way to make sure is using a clay bar on your windshied you would be surprised at what it will pick up. Also try the 303 wiper reconditioner, best stuff ever. And for the answer of "Glaze" http://properautocare.com/whatdif.html.

Did you buy these from Amazon by chance? I am curious if the rebate works if purchased through Amazon, anyone done this?
I've noticed it thru the years as well. One car came with a script on the windshield only visible in the rain.
Thought it was a silicone residue.
Acetone didn't work. I used Bar-Keeper's Friend ( a non-scratching cleanser) and it cleaned it right up. Used my hand, no rags as it'll just absorb the cleanser. No scratches either. Worked well. Trick I learned from a labratory glass manufacturer.
wow....sounds like Bar-Keeper's Friend might be the ticket ! so you're saying you just used your hands to apply it and then rinsed it off? do I need to worry about it coming in contact with the paint and stripping the wax or anything along those lines?
