Anybody know how to make a 5th gen iPod shutoff when the car shuts off?

Just curious if anyone happens to know how to make an iPod power down when the car is turned off (if it can even be done) ? Currently, every time I turn the car off, the iPod just stays powered on until the batter dies I think...which isn't cool at times when I want to take it out of the car into the gym, etc.

I noticed the same thing. I usually just press pause on the nav screen if I can remember... but usually that isn't the case and i'm left with a dead ipod

This also happens with my 3rd Generation Ipod. But not with my 6thGen/Classic. I think what is needed is a firmware update to our ipods. But since Apple has moved on to the Touch and Iphone, I doubt if we ever will get one. I found that if I at least play the ipod a few moments in the car before shutting the car off then it will go to sleep after a few mins. I also have been know to open the storage compartment and just select sleep on the ipod after I stop the car.
It's a pain in the butt that much I agree on.

annino, so are you saying that if i press the pause button on the nav screen prior to shutting off the car, it will actually power down the ipod? i would have thought it would merely pause it.

sam, i have been doing the same thing...lifting up the top portion of the console and shutting it down every time...just kind of a pain like u said and one of those things i'd like to not have to do all the time if i could figure out a workaround

I am almost positive that pausing it thru the nav prior to shutting off the car will keep the ipod paused and allow it to time out after a few minutes. Not sure tho.

Not just pausing the Ipod, but just using it in the car during an ignition cycle before it is shut down.

In other words it's sort of like this...

When the Battery Fails pre-procedure----- Ipod is plugged into car already, you start car, XM radio ONLY is being played, you drive, you stop and shut-off and leave car, the Ipod will stay on until the battery dies.

When IPOD goes to sleeps as it should pre-procedure----Ipod is plugged into car already, you start car, XM radio is played - then Ipod - then back to another source for remainder of trip, you stop and shut-off and leave car, the Ipod will then time out and go to sleep.

^^--- So basically the ipod needs a signal from the nav, to let it know it is there for every ignition cycle. Once the ipod has been accessed by the nav then all is good. So next time, when driving just flip over to your ipod for a few seconds and the unit will time or "sleep" itself out when needed at ignition power off.

Ok that makes sense. So when I see the ipod time out after pressing pause it is because I was in the Ipod screen and it was getting a signal from the nav - Not necessarily because I pressed pause.
