Now with the monitor package you can get the sweet monitor for the radio and backup camera without having to get the nav in the sport models. Is the nav worth it? I know the 2010 is a different nav, but lets here your thoughts if you currently have nav.
I went for the nav for one simple reason. I was tired of using a separate $200 unit with a much smaller screen. I did this with my '05 Max and I swore not to do it again. Plus the XM Nav Traffic is a nice addition to have that you can't get with a little portable unit.
I have an 09 Premium with Tech package. Is the voice activated NAV worth it?
Hell yeah!!!!
You just need to set the driving speeds to get an accurate arrival estimate.
I also have a portable Garmin that's at least 4 years old. It takes FOR EVER to program a route. With the NAV system in the 09 Max, just press a button, say an address, then there you are!
I say go for the Nav system. I was blown away by the demo from the salesman and how easy it was to control it with just your voice.
I still have not gotten my Maxima yet. The dealer is still trying to locate for me a 09 Sport with Tech package in the color I want. But I can't wait to play with that Nav system.
I was undecided about getting the Tech package with my '09. I finally reasoned that, since my wife and I are retired, and do a lot of riding around on unfamiliar roads, I would get the Tech/Nav.
I will never own another car without a nav package. When in an unfamiliar area, I always have the map displayed on the screen, and am able to use it with a quick glance, barely taking my eyes from the road/street for half a second. My eyes are not that great, and I was not able to see anything on the Garmins and Magellans my friends and relatives have, but this big Nissan screen is easy for me to read.
Sunday, my wife and I were on many roads we had not been on before, but with the Nav map right in front of us, we were very comfortable, always knowing exactly where we were. Made our trip much more enjoyable.
Didn't get nav. Wish that I did. Get the nav = no regrets. I like my Garmin, but voice activated built in navigation is the way to go. Expensive, but worth it.
I got the nav and every day I am glad that I did. no matter where you go, you always have a map. Its great. And it is so much nicer than a stand alone unit. Integrated and awesome.
I would say get the Nav. I think it is a very great option and very convenient. Especially based on all I have read about it.
I have me a Garmin 760, 4.3 screen. Though I hate the unit on my windshield, and the cord hanging, it is great! Mine gives me instant xm traffic info, estimated time of arrival, display speed, tons of point of interest, it is very comparable to the indash unit. But would never prefer it to the in dash. It is just what I got and i am contented with that till I buy me a new Max someday with a Nav built-in.
Consider also that a nav system may help resale down the road as more and more folks expect to see a nav system in an upscale car.
The system is very easy to use, and while you can't put in addresses while driving, the voice inputs are easy, and you can look up places (restaurants, motels, gas stations etc.). Easy to use, and logical layout and control. Get it! You won't regret it!

I got the Nav Bypass module from KP Technologies. Incredibly worth the investment. I have full funtionality of the nav while moving (or my passenger does at least). I highly recommend it for anyone with the nav.
Portable units look cool hang'n on the windshield too. Nothing says "bust the window out and take me" louder than electronics hang'n on your windshield!!! LOL.

This is funny! But can't stop me from taking down my Garmin. I couldn't get a Max with Nav, so, I am contented with what I got for GPS.

If you have good eyesight (unlike me), and can see the Garmin, there are advantages to being able to take your Garmin with you, no matter what vehicle you may be in on any given day. When my wife and I are in any vehicle other than my Maxima, my Navi is totally unavailable.
I looked up the upgrade for outdated maps......160.00 bones, good lord!!
I have also seen $200.00 asked for this update. Considering how much we pay for this feature in our Maxima, I am very disappointed in how much they charge just to update the data.
They cut their own throat. If they charged $100, I would definitely have mine updated at some point. At $200? Forget it.
Do you have a link to this Rearview GPS mirror. How much was it, and was it difficult to install???
installation is easy. it is blue tooth phone, music mp3, mp4 with 3 video input, one of which can be wire for backup camera and active when shift in reverse.
Would definitely go for the nav package. Trading my 2008 pathfinder in for the 2010 maxima. The diff in oem nav packs between these two is amazing.
Will the KP Tech bypass work on the new 2010 nav system (it does not have that stupid "OK" button)?
There is no "OK" button on the 2010. You get the Nissan logo splash screen, it says HDD Navigation System, and the map appears if the map was the last thing displayed.

The "ok bypass" function of that module is just a perk for us stuck with the 09 nav firmware. You wire the module into the "enter" button to turn it on and off (the bypass module). The fact that you don't need the automatic 'ok press' is minute to the convenience the module brings. Email KP i'm sure he will answer any questions you may have.

oh, no worries - I'm all about being safe. I hate when people are idiots. I got it so my 'co-pilot' can use it while i drive, or if i'm stuck in traffic or something and want to look things up.

I think getting Nav depends on the car. The Maxima's interior is pretty stylish, and I think if you had a garmin in there it might look out of place.
I have an 06 BMW 330i, and the interior is more of a minimalist design. I have a garmin that I mounted on the windshield and it looks fine.
Honestly with the new max I would get the nav. I've heard great things about the system itself, and the dash is so complicated now that an aftermarket unit just looks bad. The new ones have Ipod integration as well, so that's a plus.

Hi! This is my first post. Planning to get a 2010 Maxima Premium Tech in the near future. Was just in one at the dealership yesterday, and I would definitely recommend getting the nav package. I'm not entirely sure, but based on the owners manual I've been skimming through, I think the new-upgraded VGA high-resolution screen would only come with the nav package, otherwise if you just get the monitor package (information screen), you'll be stuck with the old 7" screen similar to those in the 370z. Besides, having integrated navigation isn't only convenient and readily usable, but less open to theft.
Small detail I loved about having the tech package is having album art on the nav screen when using your ipod, a minor detail others wouldn't probably care about, but a real big plus for someone who's added album art to almost 6000 songs in his mp3 collection =D.
Funny thing is, I came into the dealership asking about the 2010 altimas, but totally forgot about them when I sat in the maxima xD..
After owning my 09 max for one year, I wish I had the navigation package just for the monitor cause I am not a fan of the non-nav one. It is nice you can get the upgraded monitor without nav on the 10.
When the Max Nav is navigating does the directions come through the cars speakers?
Yes. The radio's volume even decreases so that you can hear the directions.

I've always used the portable units, but after having a car with it built in, I suspect I won't be buying another without it. No wires, no "thief attractors" hanging around, no hassles, just there. My kiddo wants to use the screen to play her video games on. I let her play her ipod videos on it once...... I suspect you won't regret the choice.

Trip this weekend took us into some small, twisty lanes in Western part of Toronto. Heavy tree cover, lots of quick turns and even down in to ravines. Nav never missed a beat. I would have spent a lot of time trying to find some of the places I went. I'm really pleased with it but not so keen on $160 for updated info.
I have an 09 with the Nav. Nissan's navigation system is ok. I am disappointed that the Points of Interest section is very limited. I am used to using a Tom Tom or Garmin, and Nissan's system overall is not near as good as Tomtom or Garmin. I hate the fact that you have to basically know the street name and number to use the nav in the maxima.
I have had endless problems trying to look up a point of interest in the maxima's navigation only to find out that the maxima doesn't list the correct city or doesn't have it in its database.
Overall, I would recommend getting the nav if you have the $$ for it. However, do not expect it to be as useful as a garmin or TomTom. Its a shame the car makers don't strike a deal with the major GPS makers and put better GPS units in our cars!

The 2010 Nav has been improved. The POIs have been spot on so far.
