They let you know its raining by letting JUST enough water collect on the windshield so that you cant see anymore, therefore, you remember to turn them on. LOL...

I've looked at both years and haven't been able to find any option that says anything about Rain Sensing wipers on the 7th gen. Since you said its on your Convenience Menu i'm assuming that you have the nav package.?? Possible this might be a feature sometime in the future perhaps a 7.5 Gen Maxima kinda like what the did with the 5th gens.??

the best way to tell is go to a car was and have the wiper control turned to the intermittent setting while you have the rain sensing wiper setting set to on, they will only turn on when the car senses rain, or at least thats what i have gathered from them.

Are you talking about rain-sensitive wipers or speed-sensitive wipers? The '09 Max only has the latter...

You (and KillaKam) are correct. Either they are meaning to say 'speed-sensitive wipers', or their Maxima is very different from mine (Premium and Tech/Navi packages).

Yeah its speed sensitive wipers. i dont know what they do either. I think they are for the faster you drive the faster the would wipe. Just like the speed sensing radio, it gets louder according to how fast you drive.

Bingo on your thoughts on the speed sensitive wipers. The faster the car moves, the faster the wipers go.

The radio, however, is different; it raises its volume as it detects the background noise rising. This could be because the car speeded up, or could be because the kids in the back seat were acting up, or someone opened a window or sunroof.

No. Read my post just above yours again. The radio has a BACKGROUND NOISE sensing system, and adjusts based on the background noise.

So that's why the louder I sing the louder the stereo gets. I just thought it was trying to tell me how bad I am...

Actually the easiest way to tell if your car has rain sensing wiper is to look at the speaker covers on the dash. One of them has a sensor(looks like a black dot) on it, for day time running lights. On the other side, if you have the option, there will be a sensor for rain sensing wipers. ill try to find a pic

That is incorrect. According to the 2010 Maxima manual, of two sensors you are referring to one is for the automatic headlights and the other is a sunload sensor for the climate control.

How would a sensor on my dash tell if it's raining - assuming I had a windshield?

If we are talking Maximas only here, the 6th Gen was the first Maxima built in Smyrna. It did not have any rain-sensing wipers either. So, I guess you were just misinformed.

The 7th generation Maxima does NOT have rain-sensing wipers.
The 6th generation Maxima did NOT have rain-sensing wipers.
The 5th generation Maxima did NOT have rain-sensing wipers.

Even had Maximas been equipped with rain-sensing wipers, the detector would have to be OUTSIDE the cabin where the raindrops could hit it.

What the Maxima DOES have is SPEED-SENSITIVE wipers. This function operates ONLY when the wiper switch is in the INTERMITTENT setting. in THAT ONE SETTING, the faster the car goes, the shorter the interval between passes of the wiper blades across the windshield.

Of course we can also change that interval by simply rotating the sleeve control on the wiper stalk. And cars with the Navigation Package can block the speed-sensitive function should they wish to.

The only thing that is going to get this mistitled and misleading thread on a rational track is for the erroneous title to be corrected to read 'What's Up With The Speed-Sensitive Wipers?'

agreed, I have a 2010 Maxima and the 7th generation max does not have rain-sensing wipers, they are speed-sensing wipers just like on the altima; the only Nissan I know that has the rain-sensing wipers is the 09-10 Murano!

If the max had rain sensing wipers there would be a laser sensor on the inside below the rear view mirror. That is how u tell if cars have them or not. Here is a video that I found on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIDRU...=youtube_gdata

My 300C had rain sensing and speed. I never had to turn on or adjust a wiper. I will miss that on the Max

agree with lotH... max's all have speed sensitive wipers.... and way better than rain-sensitive wipers. my current car has rain-sensitive and they are a pain in the ***.... I have no control over it anymore (other than me doing it manually)

ps. my sensor is on the inside of the windshield - where the rearview mirror attaches to the glass. (this is on a mazda 6 - 09 not maxima).
