I just logged into my XM radio account and it is saying the same thing at the bottom of my account information page that my radio is capable of those options as well......hmmmmm I am not sure if this is correct or not, I thought it was an upgrade for the 2010 MAX to have this capability...?

I see that too.... and the XM NavWeather is decently priced when paired with XM Radio.... I really hope we can get it, but I don't see how without a software update.
I have the 2010 and my xm radio subscription says my radio is capable of XMWX Marine , XMWX Aviator , XMWX Ground, however there are no menu options for it. Only traffic and weather.
I'm guessing that 09 owners will need a software upgrade to get the weather option as a menu item. I kinda thought that an upgrade was needed. Hopefully it's a service option at the dealership. As an IT professuional, I knew that it doesn't matter if you're getting good inputor not, if you have nothing to process the data, you still have nothing.

Ya, we just want weather - forcast and radar overlays for i think $4 more a month with the XM Radio subscription. The XMWX stuff is something different, not sure what, but its $99 a month to get it. No thanks. Haha.
Granted, I think it would be a great option but at $100 a MONTH I think I can use my cell phone.
Haha, no kidding, right? The regular XM NavWeather is what we want tho. It includes the forecast as well as the radar overlay. It is $4/month in addition to the $12/month for the XM Radio.

Agreed! I would pay the $4 uptick to get that. Be more safe than fiddling with my cell trying to avoid the worst of the obligatory Fl afternoon showers.
I just called my service advisor. They havn't heard of anything, he told me my best bet is to call Nissan North America at 1-800-NISSAN1 and ask them. Anyone want to do this today? I would but I'm working to make up for the holiday and I can't make those kinds of calls here (goverment contractor).
I did go down to the dealer and took a look at the displays. As it was raining here, I got to see how well the display works first hand. Pretty nice.
I do hope there will be a "firmware" update to allow us 09 owners the ability to get this feature. I also noticed there was a "update from DVD" option on the NAV console as well, so hopefully, if there is an update, it will only mean one trip to the service dept to get it and any future ones would be self serve.
It has to be a simple upgrade. Then new the '09 owners would want these features.
I would hope so, but maybe it is "Oh, you got an '09, you shoulda waited a year. Tough luck". Hopefully someone will call and we can get Nissan's take on this.
I called the dealer where i brought my car from. I spoke to the guy in service he said he wouldnt know anything about it, so he transferred me over to parts. My guess is they will call me back some day with an answer. So far seems there is no hope for us '09 Maxima owners.

I just called too and they said (in this order)
1.) "call XM we don't know anything about this"
when I pointed out XM didn't make or sell the radio, Nissan did, she next said
2.) "oh, call the dealer we wouldn't know anything about that"
I said isn't this Nissan, and she said um yeah call the dealer
I went for broke, and asked about my rocking drivers seat taht my dealer has sad
"was designed to do that"
She said "no it wasn't, call another dealer"

This will be last Nissan ever

How could that be?
I called Nissan USA consumer affairs, that is their job.
I suspect I would find a more knowledgeable person the parking lot of Costco
I think its worth a shot talking to a diff person. I had the same experience with the cable company. This one guy I was talking to was completely clueless, I had to hang up on him and call back to get someone with half a brain.
I hope you guys can get the upgrade. It does offer some good features. I doubt there is enough of a hardware change to keep you from getting it. The only hardware change I can think of is the USB port.

Thats what I was thinking...but for the worst. I think Nissan probably didn't make a 'CF/Ipod' version of the firmware, just the one that they have now for the new cars with just usb. I think we are screwed and forced to learn the lesson never buy a car on it's first year out.
I hope DeadLy is right and we just need to get our software updated, but my i fear my speculation may be right.
I drove home a 2010 Max on Wednesday. I have the Tech Package and XM. The first day I was able to see weather and traffic. On Friday I tried those options and they were greyed out.
Does anyone know how that should work?
I also am unsure how they know when my 3 months of XM are up. All the Maximas I saw at the dealer had XM working. What happens when a car sits on the lot for 2 months? When does XM start the clock for the 3 month trial and how do they know when to stop the clock?

easy way to check go to channel 0 on my xm. Copy the ID and log onto xmradio.com to find out when it expires. Normally your 3 months start when someone first purchases the car.
I added the Navweather to my 2009 premium with tech last week through XM web site
NavWeather never showed up on my navi system screen
so I called XM support, they sent a signal update through
I asked was this a problem with the capability with my system, and they said
"no"
NavWeather still didn't show up, so I called again.
This time XM said they did not know if my system is capable, and the verbiage I originally saw on my account screen is gone now
^^^^ well the 09 maxima originally isn't capable of supporting xm weather. Still waiting on dealer for more info on upgrading the xm system to support weather.
I sure hope you '09'ers cannot get it - that way I feel better about spending more on my '10
haha go to hell. i was excited at the thought but when i realized that realistically Nissan wouldn't give 2 craps i gave up hope. If we can get this, cool. If not, maybe its a few ounces we can save on weight and we are that much quicker than 2010+'s.....
So just got a call from my dealer. They said xm told them if the system didn't have nav weather to begin with there is no way to get it. Oh wells my cell phone does weather and just saved couple bucks a month.
