Tinted!!

Second step complete, she is now tinted. With the black roof the car look great. Next step once spring rolls around, is to add 19" or 20" black wheels. Pics can be viewed in the Gallery. Erock1500

So true! I have not tinted mine yet, but will do so this week. I've had the car for 3 weeks and feel like the world is watching me, especially when I pull up to stop lights.

Finally got mine done...after two weeks of no tint, it was killing me! I went with Formula 1 cermaic. Got it for $400 out the door (starting price was $469). Not a lot of decent options in Raleigh. They would only put 40% (legal is 35 in NC) since they said there is some factory tinting and it would meter illegal. Since NC does charge for and meter at the annual inspection, they wouldn't do darker. I would have preferred darker, but it's not a huge deal for me.

I didn't think to remove the sticker but thankfully the tint shop did. Also the put a 4" scratch right by the gas tank. I was LIVID!!! It really doesn't appear to be too bad, nothing that a detail shop shouldn't be able to buff out (on the shop's tab of course). But still!!!!

$400?!??! and 40%?? and they put a scratch in your car?? i got 20's at a legit place for $150. I would rather not even tint my windows then have to get it done 40%, that's like nothing.

400 was for the top of the line formula one tint. percentage is set by NC and they do annual inspections so there is really no way around this unless you know someone - which i don't... its much better than it was - i dont like it super dark so it's ok for me.

The 40% you got plus the slight OEM tint will give you a nice 35% setup. There would be no point in getting a tint that would not pass the required inspection. I consider vehicles tinted so dark I can't see in to be pimpmobiles. Dark tint is a great way to get pulled over around where I live, and I bet that is true in NC also.

A dark tint can also get you off on the wrong foot if you are ever stopped by law enforcement for reasons other than the tint. I certainly understand the officer's situation. There could be an AK47 pointed right at him behind that dark tint, and he wouldn't see a thing. I have suspected for some time that we will eventually have laws banning anything more than a very moderate tint. This would be strictly for the safety of law enforcement officers.

i never got pulled over in my max and my neigbhor is a cop and he compliments my car all he time..

but when i got pulled over in my mercedes, i always wind all my windows down and turn on all my light so that the cop could see whats goin on in the car.. no funny business.. but i had my tint on my maxima since july out here in san francisco... and i have yet to get pulled over..

lmao, so you're saying 25% tint is a "pimp-mobile" because you can't see inside it?

that's funny, my friend has 5%'s all around on his ford explorer and the cop told him the only thing that he's in violation for is having the front windshield tinted ($75 ticket). It's how you act to the cops always, if you want to be a jerkoff to him, he'll slap you with the biggest fine he can write you.

Those of you who had their 09 Max tinted, do you know if the installer had to remove front door panels to tint the front side windows?
thanks,
Max

I got my max tinted all around for $150!!! I got 5% on the back and rear windows and 25% on the front passenger and driver side window. Here in MO the law is 25% on the front and anything else you want on the back. I am sure I could have went with 5% all around but I did not want to deal with any hassles on the street. Though I have never been pulled over for tint specifically, I do remember back in the day when I used to cruise up and down the strip in Hawaii I was pulled over in my truck for having a loud sound system and was also cited for illegal tint!

Now that I am a police officer (military) I know that we won't pull someone over just for dark tint a larger infraction has to be made and then it will be added on if your attitude warrants it. So now I know follow the rules and be cool and you probably won't get cited!

I'm almost positive they didn't have to. That was a concern when I first looked at it, but if you bring it do a decent shop, they should be able to get the film down there.

Nope. You are sadly misinformed on this. Everything depends on WHAT STATE YOU ARE IN , HOW THE TINT LAWS OF THAT STATE ARE WRITTEN, and HOW THE TINT LAWS OF THAT STATE ARE ENFORCED WHERE YOU HAPPEN TO BE.

You CAN and sometimes WILL be pulled over in the county where I live for nothing more than dark tint or loud radio or loud exhaust or illegal lights on your car. My wife was stopped because her fog lights (OEM, properly aimed downward) were on when it was not foggy.

Those who assume tint laws are the same everywhere, and are loosely enforce everywhere help many cities and counties across the nation (such as mine) maintain a nice income from fines.

i don't know about u guys but i never have a problem.. even in uptight Southampton NY.. I really think it depends on you attitude towards the cop and if the cop feels like being a prick or not... my neighbor is a San Francisco police officer, he gives me the "you know that is illegal" look, but he also always tell me how good the 5% looks on my car.. so it really depends.

Here in PA, windshield tint is illegal, but it's done on my car. I heard its a $2100 fine if you're caught

Ironically enough, I got stopped yesterday by a cop. He was just a local one and he asked me if I knew why he stopped me and I really didn't know and he said because of the "window screening". He said that in PA the law is 70% tint. He saw I had it on the windshield and just said that everything but the back window needed to have the tint removed and he gave me a warning. He said that in 10 days if it's removed it gets thrown out. If I haven't proved it was removed, I get a ticket.

I'm not sure how much the ticket would be for, didn't have the nuts to ask him. Bright light does bother my eyes and I told him that and he said well, do you have a note? And I said no, but I'll get you one. He told me that as long as I have one, it's fine. It's just dumb they have nothing better to do that pull people over for tint when they could be doing much more productive things.

I have a friend in ATL that always was harassed by the cops when he had his old celica tinted. He now has a new car and has not tinted it and he said he has no problems. He lives in marietta so I guess the cops down there have nothing better to do than harass people.

Not to rub it in, but $222, WOW! Where do you live? I paid $100 for 20% all around except windshield. The the guy came to my house to do it and I even got five year guarantee. My salesman gave his number. He's the same guy that does the work for the dealership.

Depends on what kind of tint you want. As you can see, I got $69 off and a nice scratch on my 2 week old car. He is taking care of the bill ($300), but still has to be repainted (rear quarter panel) and will never be the same. For that, I don't know that I recommend taking it there. If you do, make sure you have them do a walk around with you and note any scratches that exist and then do another when you are done.

On my wife's lexus, they did Lumar ATR and I like it better than the ceramic tint. They would only put 40% on there since they said it has some factory tint. Everyday I regret not getting it darker....
