Road and Track Sept 08 SV sport tested

"Close, but no sports car"

just picked up the R&T tonight b/c it had the test on the SV sport model.
the only thing they had to say bad about it was the same thing everyone else on here has said no manual. for me not a big deal cause every maxima i have had has been an auto. plus that the exact setup i want when i move into the 7th gen sometime next year. but i have to say this is the best review i seen on it so check it out

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=6926

lol really don't need to buy mags no more its all online just found the article wasted 4 bucks lol

they even talked about the maxima vs tl. this car only need two things a manual and awd and then it will really be like the GT-R of the sports/luxury sedan market. thats the only two thing that will make it the best performing in its class

Very fortunately, living near Atlanta, I have absolutely no use for a manual tranny (worthless when forever sitting in stop and go 5-10 MPH gridlock) or AWD (no ice or snow south of Atlanta; raises price of car; expensive to repair; lowers MPG).

So, for me, the '09 Maxima already is the perfect car. That is why I am now negotiating to get one well below MSRP.

Believe me... I truly understand the draw of the manual tranny.

Still, after reading (and being part of) all of the manual transmission rhetoric on here, as well as the various reviews knocking the '09 Max for its lack of a manual tranny, I got a VERY big chuckle reading the recent Car and Driver long term test of the G35 Sport 6MT. In it, they pretty much praised the car but stated...
"If we had it to do over again, we would have passed on the manual transmission."
I just thought that was precious, lol. I guess the grass IS always greener on the other side.

They should have a manual and a firm shifting 6 or 7 speed auto. I have never been a fan of the CVT, especially in a sports sedan.

Other than that, seems like a big improvement.

CVT has issue with handling torq, they create too much heat and are connected to the engine via rubber band.
I dont care for cvt/auto/manual, I'm just sick of fwd, there is no way a car with sporting intentions can be fwd.

In the Edmund's test drive review they overheated the trans and the car went into failsafe mode, once it cooled off it returned to normal driving.

The only one complaint I've read about the 7th Gen is, if Nissan is gonna say it's the return of the 4DSC then Nissan should have put a manual trans in it, but I think some people might just need a different car all together
