Iphone Issues-other

Well, I went to test drive the new max and we are considering getting one. Very slick car. It's going to be hard to part from the 2k2 to this, but I think this may be the car. One thing I tested was the Iphone 3G. well I get the msg that this charging is not supported and to turn on airport mode. Thought i'd share my insights of what I found.

Yes this was made for the first gen Iphone. I bought a car charger for 20.00 at the att store. I like the bluetooth feature as this is the first time I ever had this. The code is 1234 if memory serves me right.

Is the I Pod touch the one that looks just like the I Phone? I was getting ready to buy one specifically for when I get my Max, but if it's not compatible why bother. Any I Pod user's help please. I would think that if the 3 G is compatible then the touch should be as well. The 3 G is newer then the touch.

ForeverMAX: The msg states that the charging mechanism is not compatiable and will not charge. This has been A BIG issue with the 3G iphone. It will NOT charge.

Maximak99: The Ipod touch has not had issues with charging that I have heard of.

It just the new 3G requires what's called the D- and D+ signals from the USB port (which is how it really is charged even thought the connector looks nothing like a USB port) and a lot of charging devices dont have this. So the Iphone will work to transmit data, but not charge.

Iphone 3g Charging Solution

Found a solution for anyone with the Iphone 3G. Here is the link. You can also get a/v cables cheap.

is there an adapter for that? so 3g will charge as well? I mean it's a shame that you are buying 37K car and something don't work, nissan has to come up with an adapter and soon.

Don't blame Nissan, Apple changed the specs.

Microsoft/Toshiba did the same thing with my Zune. Changed the charging specs and now my previous chargers don't work correctly.

Motorola is the same... most of their phones can charge from a standard USB port +5V, but only if Motorola software drivers are installed so that the correct response is received on the data channel. It's one way they (attempt to) control accessory licensing (although they tell the customer it is to protect them from "substandard" charging devices).

Nissan's interface was probably designed before they knew that Apple was jumping on this same bandwagon. Nissan may or may not come up with a fix (which may possibly cost them licensing fees from Apple) but, as Compusmurf stated, it's Apple you should be ticked at, not Nissan.

Just be glad its not Verizon offering the iPhone... they would probably charge extra for the privilege of connecting the phone to an external device. They have a history of disabling features that phone manufacturers build into their phones and then charging you extra to turn them back on (bluetooth file transfer, for instance). There is a huge Verizon "underground" dedicated to hacking Verizon's "de-featurization" - there are a bunch of Verizon phones running around with hacked Alltel firmware on them (Alltel typically leaves all features activated - unfortunately Verizon just bought Alltel - ughhhhhh).

Merged the threads.

This adapter looks promising. Now find one that will allow me to hook my zune to the ipod connector.

I will definitely buy it, but will wait till the price will drop to like $20 with shipping,.

I found this... It looks like it should work fine. I think I am going to order this plus a dock cable extension so i don't have to plug this converter directly into the iphone.

So here is a new one...

I have my 3G synced through BlueTooth and when I am on a call I can hear my voice echoing loudly. I can still hear the other person, but they can also hear the echo.

I have re-synced the phone, tried playing with a couple of settings, but im not sure what else to do.

Any ideas?

OH YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHH! I got my adapter and it works GREAT!!! I plugged it in and hooked up my 3G and BAAAM! IT was all good to go, it charges my phone just fine and I did not lose any function what so ever through my OEM headunit it all worked the same. I love that I can play my music, surf the net and do all the things the 3G can do on a long drive and still have a full battery once I get to my destination.

No prob, I am just happy that the adapter actually works as stated I was tired of draining my IPHONE or having to unplug it so I could plug my cigarette lighter adapter in and losing my music. Now I can have it all!!!!

What about the calling function? With the phone hooked up via the IPOD cord, I don't see any caller id info on the car's screen..can you connect the phone via the car's bluetooth?

I am not sure why you don't see your caller ID info on the screen? Mine works just fine, you have manually type in your phone book contacts (sucks) but when you get calls it diplays it on screen. Try that and see how it works.

My winmo phone supports the phonebook transfer protocol, but seems that Nissan's implementation isn't quite using a standard..... I'm stuck manually entering my numbers, tho not that I will.... I found out that the voice command stuff works thru the car's bluetooth to my phone and all my common callers are Voice Command tagged.

totally random question -

when you leave the car, will the doors automatically lock even if you don't hit the switches on the handle or the lock button on the intelli-key? If so, how long before the doors automatically lock?

thx

Even though this owuld be considered a thread jack and very bad etiquette, Ill answer the question best I can. I do not believe the door auto lock, but I could be wrong. I might be dreaming, but I could have sworn I saw an option for auto lock of doors somewhere in the menu, but I really dont think its available. I leave the max un locked in the garage all the time and when I get back to it, its still unlocked.

my apologies..to back on topic regarding iphone 3g and max, are you able to use your phone's ringtone as the ringtone for the car? Even though I have that option enabled under settings, I still hear the default "ring, ring."
