Should I buy 2010 Maxima?

Hey there!

I am looking to buy a used 2010 maxima with 170000km on it. Just had a lot of work done recently: new starter, new rear coils, new brakes, new tires and a new battery. Apart from that vehicle is in great shape both inside and out. Price is 4,800 US. I really like the car and the way it drives but I’ve had a lot of people tell me to stay away from it due to the CVT. How likely is the CVT to break on me in the near future?

Thanks!

Nothing wrong with a CVT if it taken care of and the required maintenance is performed. In your case I have two concerns. How did the previous owner/s drive it? but more importantly with 170,000 Km on the CVT, there should of been at least 2-3 fluid changes. If the fluid changes can't be confirmed, I, myself would pass it by.

Well said. I have 191K on my 2010 and the CVT has been maintained with drain and fills every 30k-35k miles. I've had absolutely no issues. Love that car.

At $4800 dollars that car is priced at the high end of the Kelley Blue book. I would check to see if the common wear items have been replaced such as the radiator, hoses, drive pulleys, suspension components, and it wouldn't hurt to know if the a/c has been serviced before either. Lastly, I would take a good look under the car at the front suspension and frame rail parts for rust.
