Jerky cvt while braking
has anyone experienced this before i have 2011 maxima sv 85k, KM on it, i find that when i go from D to Ds only half the time the rpm rises up into the 3000 rpm and then when i brake to a complete stop hard or not hard i feel a jerk and its distracting almost feels like someone hits the gas a little.

This is normal. You are experiencing engine braking, which the CVT simulates downshifting in a manual vehicle using the engine force to slow the car. Then you are also experiencing the torque converter locking around 11 mph causing another jerk.

- Shifting from D to Ds:
- Under 30MPH - No jump to 3K RPM.
- 30MPH and up - Jump to 3K RPM and then back down as needed.
- Braking while in Ds Mode:
- Gentle braking to normal stopping - No "downshifting".
Your "normal stopping" brake pressure and speed of depressing the pedal may vary from what Nissan has determined to be the "normal/average" driver though. - Hard braking such as a emergency stop or "some-id10t-driver-just-decided-to-swerve-into-my-lane-and-didn't-bother-to-signal-or-check-their-mirrors-for-any-objects" braking - CVT will simulate the "downshift" for more engine braking and preparation in case you want to use all 290(+) horses to quickly merge over to another lane and keep up with traffic and avoid a collision with anything.
- Gentle braking to normal stopping - No "downshifting".
- Torque Converter:
- Locks up at around 16MPH.
- Going downhill:
- D Mode:
- The engine will downshift smoothly to utilize engine braking and prevent you from speeding up going downhill.
You will feel a slight pull back sensation, but nothing major.
- The engine will downshift smoothly to utilize engine braking and prevent you from speeding up going downhill.
- Ds Mode:
- The engine will downshift more abruptly to utilize engine braking while downhill; for that sports car feel.
You will definitely feel that downshift.
- The engine will downshift more abruptly to utilize engine braking while downhill; for that sports car feel.
- D Mode:
Any more than 2 while stopping might warrant a trip to the dealer for a checkup or at least posting more questions for us to try and help.
