Likely to make the jump into a 7th gen
Hey guys, so I've been doing some car shopping for myself off and on for quite sometime. I just got thru replacing my wife's 2004 SE-R Spec-V for a 07 Mini Cooper. She misses the Sentra, but also loves the comfort, handling, and extremely better MPG (from 24mpg to 32mpg). Moral of the story...take care of the woman first.
Anyway, I got a pass to get a car from the wife. So I set a budget, just financing approved, and ready to make the jump to a 7th gen. For a while I've been wanting a SV, premium package. I think I found one that fits the bill. Went and test drove it. Fell in love, but walked away. This was two days ago.
Here it is. 2011 Silver Metallic SV Premium. 27,880 miles. Also pre-owned certified.

I think I can probably knock the price down a bit more, but do you guys have an input or thoughts? Anything in particular I should check for?
If I go thru, this will be my 4th Maxima. I currently have a 5.5 gen that I will keep and continue to do things to. The new car would be the daily driver/family car.

Looks like it's at a pretty standard range in-line with KBB value of a CPO. Maybe you can kick it lower to about $24k.
You'll hear different reports of fuel economy. I'm getting only about 18mpgs, but driving on an island is pretty much city driving all the way. So that's something to consider.
Make sure she drives it too and likes it, because it's a bigger car (and it'll feel that way at first). This is especially coming from a sentra and a mini cooper. It'll take some time to get used to.
You'll want to make sure the CVT is covered should it go out and you have problems with it. Ask if the warranty for that will "reset" at its current mileage, because it is a CPO. The current warranty I think is 5 years/60,000 miles for 2011+ models (only the 2009-2010 got the 10 years/120,000 miles).
Check shocks, CV boots for wear/leakage. Check for possible coolant leaks in the headgasket (uncommon but reported). Ask about the steering lock issue, see if that was ever a problem with the car in the past and if it has been disabled (you can disable it yourself later if they didn't by yanking the fuse out after the car has started).
I guess that's about it from what I can think of. Maybe others with an SV can chime in. Mine's a 2010 S.

18mpg probably won't bother me considering I'm coming from a 5.5 gen that averages between 18-21mpg on a regular basis. I fully expect to average pretty close to the same. My wife has driven the 7th gen when it first came out a while back and loved it, though I'll make sure she drives this one.
I looked up what they had for the warranty, and it shows 7-years, 100,000 miles for certified used, so I'm covered there. I also pulled a vehicle history and it came back clean, and shows a good maintenance record too. It appears to be a lease return.

Definitely have to keep the little woman happy. One thing you might want to do though is "wait". The 8th generation is just around the corner for release (Fall) and 2 things to take into consideration. First, you might end up liking it more than the 7th and secondly the release of a new year/generation will drive the price down on the 7th generations.. ie might get more bang for your buck. Either way, good luck with your search.

Um not to rain on your parade but why another FWD? My g8gt was less than $20k with 38,000 miles. I don't mind a family car with FWD for that type of duty but having 2 and one is a project car doesn't make sense.

It's a done deal. I got the car.
MaxSleeper: Yeah...I probably should have considered that, but I'm a little too impatience.
Amerikaner83: I really like the 7th gen and wanted one since it came out....finally happened.
Jeff: Perhaps you're right, and maybe something changes down the road. However I have a pretty heavy attachment to my 5.5. Sure it not the best platform to work with, but I own it out right, I'll still get to enjoy it in my own way with the odd stares.
BTW, here's a pic:

You usually pay a premium when a "hot" new model such as the 8th Gen Maxima first comes out. Just like when the 7th Gen first came out. At this point the 7th gen is probably the better value. If such a thing matters to you.

I bought the 7th gen in september when it came out in august i guess? Dealer did 3k off but the finance interest rate was no good and made up the 3k for them if i didnt pay it off early..so basically i paid sticker for the car when you figure interest in. Compare that with today 0% loan and a NICE discount in the thousands from what I read online anyway. That 8th gen is gonna be same deal for a good year or so after it comes out depending how it sells. I'm happy I didn't go with the 6th gen even though he tried to sell me one for a nice big discount with the 7th gen sitting there. Happy with my decision all those years ago but def has a point.
BTW great buy awesome color!
