K&N Replacement Air Filter
Has any one had any tried this filter before or have experience with it, it says that it can last up to 50,000 miles before cleaning is required depending on driving conditions. How does one clean this filter anyway?
here is a link to what I am talking about,

Go to autozone or OReileys. You can buy there also for about 45$. I bought one at 25,000 miles. I have 31,500 now. 0 issues. A very small/not significant enough change in sound. I mean, ever so slight increase in sound. There is a small, very small increase in throttle response. I did find that this filter is a bit more fuel efficient. About .5-1mile per gallon better. I went from 20.5 mpg to 21.5 on average. I have not cleaned yet. For 45 $ and a quick pop in pop out install, go for it. Easy as pie to swap and I was happy. It's more efficient than a short ram intake. Those are just for noise. No power gains.

I ordered one of these off amazon for $39 a few months ago, no issues and I agree with the above statements, improvement in sound and alittle bit better throttle response. I don't do much driving, so I figure as long as I have this Car one less thing i need to change

K&N Drop in Filter
I have about 35K miles on my K&N drop in filter, about 12K in my previous Maxima and 23K in my current. I've been pretty happy with this filter. I cleaned it at about 15K and I plan on cleaning it again this summer with the K&N cleaning kit.

I guess the only reason I haven't got this filter would be the cleaning part, I'd hate to do incorrectly and screw my car but I will definitely give this filter a try

Cleaning & oiling the filter is not hard, just make sure that you don't go crazy with the oil.
I bought my stillen intake used. It came with a cleaning & oiling kit. I cleaned it & oiled the filter & have had no issues. I've done it with the OEM style K&N replacements on my other cars too. No problems with those either.

I just received mine yesterday. It comes pre oiled and like others have stated, it's not that big of deal to re-oil. Also, depending on how many miles a year you drive you only will do this maybe once a year if that.

Too much reading on the link. I'm not that concerned about the 45$ investment. I can think of plenty of other 45$ let downs. The K&N filter is not a let down. Good one GIZZSDAD. Do you envelope own a 7gen max, Troll?

That's an interesting article although I'm not sure it can directly be assumed that one test run (I didn't see any data regarding how many tests and how many filter samples were used) of an entirely different filter model is going to be a truly accurate representation.
Still, cool stuff and I love seeing people not just take tribal knowledge at face value and willing to put it to the test.
