Steering wheel problem. Motor grinding and stuttering.

Mine just started acting up, I have 37k and no extended warranty. FML. Can I disable it all together? I assume the TSB ont help and I still gotta pay for it. I have an 09 SV sport without nav or tech.

Perhaps if enough of these steering column motors failed during warranty Nissan will realize that it needs to build a more a robust system to protect its bottom line and reputation.

PS I had several Honda Accords and drove them to about 200,000 miles with basically routin maintainance. Hope my 2012 Maxima comes close to that.

If I could just locate the right fuse I'd pull it. I don't need the feature right now.

It's in the manual 4-13/4-14. From the statement in 3-31 I believe you need the Nav option to disable it.

I just had my tilt motor replaced at no cost through my extended warranty. The service advisor told me that they installed an updated motor.

I really like the auto-tilt wheel and sliding seat feature of the Maxima. It's hard for me to get in smoothely when the seat and wheel are at my preferred setting. Opening the cabin up makes it easier to get in and out.
I have noticed that when I start my car and let it warm up, it's harder to get in and out as the car moves to the drive setting. My workaround was to program memory setting 2 as a wide open tilt and seat slide. This way, even with the car running, I can quickly open up the cabin and step out.

^I agree. I'm 6'2" and I need all the space I can get when entering/exiting this car, especially after lowering it.
I contiplated disabling it but then thought this is a feature I wanted with this car, disabling it now (when it's work fine) just so it won't break later is not going to happen.
If it goes out later I'll just pay to get it fixed.

I am just curious. How much of the $1100 was parts and how much was labor? Is the $214 part OEM, or 3rd party?

Oem, I was quoted $400 somthing for the part by nissan and the rest was labor, said it would take a few hours.

I had both motors replaced in 11 on my 09 at the dealer. $703 out the door. (tilt and in-out are separate motors/assys.) 1100 seems very high.
