Foud a neat trick with the paddles

I havent seen this posted anywhere so forgive me if it is a repost... if you leave the shift slector in D and use the paddles to downshift as when comming to a stop sign or having to slow abruptly, if you hold either of the shifters down, in 1 second it will automatically shift back to D in normal drive mode. This is much quicker than not holding the paddle down and letting the transmission decide when to put it back into D mode. Hope this helps those that use D mode most of the time and want to ocassionaly tap the paddle to make it do what you want in that specific moment without having to move the selctor and take your hands off the wheel.

Is ok to downshift using the paddles to slow down? I keep thinking it will mess something up...
Thx!

it is perfectly fine to downshift using the transmission (paddles or the shifter). i asked a Nissan master tech and they said the car actually does it on it's own a little when you brake.

Jimm - awesome info thanks! I always used to push my shifter from left to right to force my car back into D. This will be nice to not have to take my hands off the wheel anymore! Thanks!!

That master tech is absolutely correct. In both the 6th and 7th gens, as we start down a hill at low speed, if we are not depressing the accellerator, the car automatically begins applying engine compression via the tranny to slightly slow the car down.

I noticed this immediately when I began driving my 6th gen '04 SL, and was glad when I found the same system exists on my 7th gen '09.
