Saw it on the BQE going west. You should glossify your grill to make it pop

this is commonly used in the show scene to test how a paint job would look with out risking the cost of a paint job. Plastidip is a rubberized paint that goes on like spray paint but holds like vinyl. It's an easy process and very fast drying. If done correctly and taking your time, this how to can be done with a "painted look"

for this how to, i used plastidip on my rear bumper inbetween my tail pipes. In due time i'll be trying this on my front bumper with a certain design i have in mind.

Q&a are always useful in how to's so dont hesitate to ask!

Enjoy!

Plastidip

area of attack!!!

1) clean the surface area

2) mask the area with 3m removable painters tape

3) mask off other over spray area's

4) lightly spray 1 coat

5) 2nd coat (drying should only take 5-10mins depending on temperature and humidity

6) 3rd and final coat. (you may do more coats depending on the look you want to achieve) dry for 10-15mins

7) this is the part where you take your time. The first picture shows how rubberized the product will be at this point. I pulled the tape to show the effect. Do not pull the tape.

8) use a knife or razor blade, and follow along the tape. If you're carefull, you will not cut your oem paint job. Take your time.

9) and you're done!!! You may want to go along some rough and pulled edges to clean them up with the razor blade.

if you dont like the outcome.... Peel it off.

as for impact, debris cleaning and heat... Others who have done this modification have not had any issues (even on front bumpers). How it holds up to pressure washing.. I'll have to find that one out for myself.

Other than that, it only took me about 45mins... To come out with a whole new look.

This product can be removed with out damaging your oem paint.. To test it for yourself... Spray this product on a test panel, or an area you're not worried about on your car to find out for yourself.

Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any oops or fails... And if you spray on the wrong product... That's your own damn fault. Lol.

it looks awesome, how is it holding by now? How about car wash? I use power gun to power wash my own car, will plasti-dip hold up for that kind of pressure??

yea they're metal and i dipped them good so i doubt they will. but if they do thats gonna suck lol. I had something like that on a murano. i bought some crap from autozone and they melted and bonded with stems so when trying to take them off the stems just snapped so nissan had to replace 4 sensors haha
but we'll see since we got low profile tires you have to pump them up once in a while so ill keep track on it but so far so good

^ thats matte vs glossy difference...its not suppose to be the same color...now if you wanted a glossy colormatched, then you shoudl buy some of the body color and spray over the plasti-dip...this way it will be colormatched and you can peel it off when you want to go back to chrome

So if i get the body colored spray and spray it over plastidip, I can for SURE peel it off if I wanted? Would the dealership have the same body colored spray on paint? I know they have touch up paint but didnt know about spray

Also i looked for the glossifier plastidip in stores, didnt see it, is it only an online thing?

I would test it on something else before spraying it. from what i know plasti dip gets extremely hard to take off once painted over with something like paint or clear coat

I'm going to dip my matte black wheels with some silver metalizer to give it a lighter gunmetal look.

I was never into the black wheel look but I do appreciate the simple rawness of the look now.

^ you can always either use the clear coat, or a glossy paint.
Look at my grille, its plasit dipped first but the white is actually 3 step body color paint applied over the thin layer of plasti dip...if you dont like it you can alwats peel it off

I did my rims and after 24hours I went to the car wash
To test them out and it started peeling off. Should I just redo the whole rim or just had another coat or 2?

na i would suggest to redo them, but when you going to do that make sure to clean the rims well even the little part where the tire and rim meet clean inside there as well... also give it about 3 days to cure well before going to car wash then only way they would peel is if you want them to peel lol

you need to degrease and make sure the wheels are brake dust free! Otherwise you will get what you got

Ryan, Idk about plasti-dipped, but someone has used glossy 3M tape for the trim around windows and from the pictures it looks legit. I know its not helpful, but I'll see if I can find who has it

Yeah I seen that before, Im talking to a few guys in my area that do vinyl wrap. This may be the route I go if I don't decide to get them painted.

I also found this video on youtube searching for plastidipped window trim, coinincedently its on a 2012 Maxima

I wonder if I can plasti-dip my chrome door handles and paint over them with the color of my car and then clean coat. Has anybody done this before?

Has anyone plasti dipped their wheels matte black with the silver metalizer? It's supposed to come out looking like a nice gunmetal color (depending on the amount of coats you use).

Plasti-dipped my wheels!

Hey guys! So, I've had my Maxima for about 2 weeks now and my first modification (if you can call that) is I plasti-dipped my wheels! I really wanted the dark wheels that normally come with the limited edition when I bought the car, but the dealer wouldn't budge, so I decided to try and paint them gun metal myself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tmXg...ature=youtu.be

I bought the silver metalizer wheel kit from dipyourcar.com and used about 3 coats of black (2cans) and 2 coats of silver (1 1/2 cans).

the lighting in this pic makes the wheel look lighter/grayer than it is. The picture below has a more accurate look.

fricken made a mistake.... i had the slightest imperfection when i checked the wheels today, so i decided to spray some metalizer on it to fix it.... Apparently it's too runny after the plasti-dip has had time to set and harden... and it made the previous spray liquify, so i messed up the wheel even more. Luckily it's only the center cap. Other than that, they all came out great.

The next thing I'll probably do is lower my car.... so if anyone in the DFW area has a shop that can hook me up on a good deal for spring install (or even a discount on eibach springs) i'd be greatly appreciative!

Thanks. I don't plan on getting rims anytime in the near future, so I figured i'd change the look up on the factory 18's. Hopefully once I get lowered and the wheel well gap is closed these wheels will look even nicer. For now though, i'm just hoping they look good when I see them in the sunlight tomorrow.

Pics please! The metalizer does seem like it worked its magic. I've been wanting to redo my grille (plasti dipped w/clear coat), metalizer or the glossifier sounds like a good idea...

Damn it!

Now there's going to be a ton of max's that look just like my limited edition.......so much for "limited"!!!

Look great! Good job. I've been looking for something to try to get the chrome around the windows and a the chrome ring around the grille to match the LE wheels. Maybe this will work.....i'll have to check it out.

After looking at the video again, it almost looks like there are sparkles in it, which I'm not to fond of. Maybe its just the lighting though.

So for daytime pics!

Has anyone after applying this much Plasti-Dip to the (outer) wheel surfaces ever check to see if they are affecting wheel balance?
Just curious as to what the spray can weighs before and after to understand how much weight is added each wheel?
