I spent 2 weeks going to the dealers.
2door Caddy SVT
Corvette
G37 coupe and sedan
IS250
Mustang

Very happy with the 2010 Premium purchase because I got it for 30,800 and price was a huge consideration for me. No one would have been able to match that feature for feature and people are shocked when they ride in it.

I come from a long line of Lexus.

So I was considering getting another IS or a G37 Coupe BUT I couldn't have gotten the amazing deal I did on the Max.

Truth is I had never in my life considered a Maxima, it was an over night thing. It has been close to two weeks and I love my car. Maxima FTW

I had my heads in the clouds for a while, I was trying to find used M3 beamers,
CLK 500 benz, stuff like that. I finally realized that these are thee worst cars when it comes to dependability, The idea of buying a brand new car to me was stupid. I started looking into Nissans and absolutley fell head over heals in love with the Maxima.

Looked at and test drove the following cars:

Acura TL, but I cannot stand what Acura has done styling-wise to these cars.
Toyota Avalon, what a snoozefest to drive.
Hyundai Genesis, silly money for a Hyundai.

I was going to purchase a Pontiac G8 but they sold it the day before I made the trip. It had a lot more features than my Max but I'm overall happy with this one.

Let's see...
Infiniti G35x: was the biggest competitor. Was too tight for me, I'm a big dude.
Acura TL: Was probably good for the price, but was way too small and under powered for me.
Lincoln MKX: very roomy and comfortable, but couldnt accelerate worth **** and handled like a tank.
Cadillac DTS: Again, very roomy and comfortable, but handled like a boat. It's probably my fault for not knowing what I wanted at the time.
Subaru Legacy: What a joke. My *** barely even squeezed into that seat. Not for me.

The Maxima was a good compromise in that it's ****ing fast and handles well, while still big enough to be comfortable for a 280lbs dude cruising through the city. I love this car.

G37s coupe
C350 sport

Both were much more money for the same features and nissans are much cheaper to mod and maintain/service.

I actually started out looking at the latest generation Altima's, the 3.5 4 door was catching my eye because it seemed well priced, well built, and fast enough/useful enough/stylish enough for me. I stopped by Carmax so I could test drive a variety of cars and ended up test driving an older Maxima, an older Acura TL, a 300 series BMW. None stuck with me, and the older Maxima kind of felt like a big boring boat. I also realized I didn't want an older car so swung by the dealership to see the later models. I planned on test driving the Altima but saw the new Maxima and was like "what...is....that???" Of course the salesman got excited and let me test drive the 2011 fully loaded - I FELL IN LOVE INSTANTLY! After that I couldn't get my mind off the 7th gen Maxima's so I camped out on Autotrader for a while until I found a decent price on a used 09 and jumped on it. Best decision of my life ever. This car blows everyone away.

I only have 13.9k miles on mine and owned it since Sept 2008....I am seriously looking at the new Jeep SRT8 once is comes out...if it looks as good as I think it might. I'll prob have 15.5k miles on this thing at that point. I'd guess my resale will be pretty good.

In my opinion, MAXIMA has the best bang for the buck.

I was considering a used Volkswagen CC, which appears to be a great car, but I have to many friends with VW's that are riddled with problems. Also looked at used Audi A4, Infinity G37x and BMW 328i, but in the end the looks of the Maxima and cheaper overall cost for what I felt was a comparable car won me over.

Well I was a little all over the map this time around. I was initially looking SUV's, either an 06 Range Rover Sport HSE or an 08 Escalade but warranty was a big concern for me. My last car was an 04 BMW 745Li, which I paid $25k for with 108,000kms, and after 6 months of driving it she started to act up. lol. Repaired the coolant system for $3k then when other issues came up a few months later I dumped it for $24k. The 7 Series was such a comfortable/classy car that when a dealer friend of mine called me to say he just took in an 06 I had to go see it/test drive it. The car was super clean and I almost bought it for $33k but I ultimately decided against it due to no warranty and the issues I had with my last one. Granted I know that BMW took care of most of those issues going into the 06 model year, its still an expensive car to maintain. I know its kinda hard to compare the 7 to our Maximas but they do have some similarities. Since I was now back in the sedan category, I looked at a silver 2003 Mercedes E55 with 98,000kms. The car was clean and checked out well but once again I was reluctatnt to take on the high cost of maintenance eventhough I could have got that car for under $25k out the door. Lastly I considered an 06 CLS 500 with 60,000kms but read too many bad reviews online and left it alone.

I had rented a 7gen Max when I was in FL in January and really enjoyed driving it. In the end, I came across my beautiful pearl white 09 Sport/Tech with 38,000kms on it, balance of factory warranty and walked into the dealer ready to make a deal. Once we thru some numbers around I bought the car right on the spot. I'm happy with my decision

What I looked at before buying the Maxima

Acrura TL >>The "beak look" was too much! Back view also bad
Volks CC>>Lots of break fix experience from my friend who bought one last year
Hyundia Genesis>>Did not want to explain "It's a Hyundia" for that kind of dough

Yeah, I didn't consider any Euro rides due to long term reliability concerns and high maintenance cost. Love the styling and performance of Audi's and BMW's and even considered the VW CC, but I was all in for a Japanese ride this time around.

Don't Buy a Jeep

Don't do it bro.....I had a 4X4 V8 Jeep GC Limited. It was a $45,000 ride brand new with all the bells and whistles. two years down the road the housing behind all the door handles started cracking. Three years down the road all of them completely busted out. If you do a search this was common with the last generation of Jeeps (05' - 09'). Even when presented with a record of all the complaints by 100's of other Owners Jeep refused to fix it . Each door panel costs $700 to fix...I know....I replace three . This was just one of the many problems (leaking radiator, leaking air conditioner, malfunctioning HVAC controls, 4WD breaking, on and on and on and on. I used to love Jeeps....now I curse their name and they are the specific reason I went to a Japanese manufactured car (2011 maxima SV Sport ).....never again Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep.....never again. Do what you gotta but be warned.

I have always owned maximas but for a change last month I decided to look at the 2011 Sonata Turbo Limited, to lease. I test drove one and was sold on it. It drove very nicely, is very quick, looks like a much more expensive car, has a ton of features like touch screen nav, heated leather in front and rear, push button start, etc, and got superb gas mileage. All this for substantially less money than the max. I'm not putting them in the same class or anything, but for the money it's hard to beat the value with the new Hyundai. The dealer had no Turbo Sonatas in the colors I wanted or outfitted/optioned the way I wanted and claimed that no other dealers had what I wanted either, saying that the turbo model is not in real demand and hard to find. They also couldn't tell me when I could expect them to get more cars in. So, I walked next door to Nissan and a few hours later I drove home in a brand new 2011 Max SV with the monitor package in Crimson Black. I am not disappointed by any means with the max, but I had just wanted to try another car. I love the max and this makes the 5th one for me.

Hopefully none of us will run into issues with Nissan dealerships getting parts...due to what all is going on in Japan...

it was either the 2011 buick lacrosse, 2009+ hyundai genesis sedan or the upcoming 2012 hyundai azera - 2012 kia cadenza.

but I couldn't wait for the azera and cadenza..but watch out for them. those are mid-large sedan sizes and will be very interesting how lexus and nissan takes the heat.

I almost purchased a Lexus ES350 but I think I was blinded by the idea of owning a "lexus". After buying the Maxima and looking back at the test drive of the ES350 I would have to say it was one of the most boring cars I have ever driven. I mean it's nice and very quite, but it has no sole. The body looks very basic....the wheels are total crap...and it is a bit sluggish. Thank god I didn't act on the deal the salesman had on the table. I'm much more satisfied with the Max. Now if I could have gotten into the IS350 for the money this might read differently.
