Cracked Windshield?

Cracked Windshield?
Hey folks,
This evening I got into my '09 S and there is a large crack in the windshield stemming from the lower driver's side corner, moving across the windshield (about a 1/4 of the way across the windshield). My first thought is that a rock on the freeway came up and clocked the windshield, even though I didn't recall any rock hitting the windshield earlier in the day. I start examining the windshield and notice that the crack extends below the windshield seal (no sign of rock chip or impact point from some object). I drove the car only a couple of hours earlier, and there was no crack at all on the windshield. Now, the crack is over a 1/4 of the way across the windshield.
I live in Seattle and we've been having steady temperatures in the 50's for the last couple of weeks (ruling out extreme temperatures). I can't believe that a crack that large could manifest itself in only a couple of hours when there's no evidence that something directly hit the windshield, and the crack is clean all the way below the windshield seal.
Any chance this could be a defective windshield? Has anyone else had this problem with their '09? What do you guys think the outcome will be when I take it into the dealer tomorrow?
Thanks!
Phil
