Front Suspension Recall

I guess that there is a Front Upper Suspension Insulator recall on 2009-2010 Maxima and Altimas'.

Here is a Document from Nissan stating the issue: Here

Wow. Thanks for the heads up.

Car's only had two payments and it'll have had the roof off and the suspension rebuilt.

Nice.

At least they took responsibility. Happy about that.

So THIS is what that strut noise is that some of us have commented on. Glad it's been acknowledged and diagnosed.

Look at the stickers on the driver's side door frame, right next to your seat.

Some recent Maximas are involved in a recall for defective strut components.

You were 1 post away from being the hero to break the news.

The defective part is from China. Shocking...

I missed the earlier post.

At least these defective parts don't reek of rotten eggs.

I'm surprised we have some here who were caught by this very limited recall.

For '09 Maximas, only those built on March 2, 2009, and those built between June 19, 2009 and August 3, 2009 are affected.

For '10 Maximas, only those built between August 3, 2009 and August 14, 2009 are affected.

Unless we receive a letter of recall notice next month, our car was not built within those date windows.

Whit - There is ONLY ONE CHANCE IN 31 that your car will be recalled. The ONLY day in March 2009 the bad strut insulators were used was March 2. I bet you are OK.

I thought you had your Maxima before July? Other than one day (March 2, 2009), none of these bad parts were ever used in a Maxima before June 19, 2009, and cars made at that time probably did not reach the dealer, get cleaned up, put on display and sold before July.

I think the recalled problem is a loud pop or snap, followed by little if any noise. From your description, I suspect your Maxima may have a bad strut, and may need a whole new strut. Maximas (not just the 7th gen) have been known to sometimes have occasional strut failure.

Funny thing is Trelleborg is a scandinavian company. Their Chinese division screwed up. I'd like to have been in the conference room that day. If Engrish is screwed up I wonder what scandinavian with a chinese accent and then translated sounded like.

Oh just the wind accordion came off the passenger side of the front moonroof while moving back and smashed the plastic seal around the rear moonroof. Replaced the whole glass and seal. Kind of a freak thing.

Now they'll have to drop both sides shock assemblies, etc, etc. Sticker says 03/09.

The driver seat is in line to go bad but at least the driver rear knuckle is of good make and on no bulletins.

There seems to be many recalls on the suspension of our Maxima's as well as other Nissan products. I really hope this doesn't create a record for Nissan for the time to come....

Dad - You are probably fine on the struts. The only cars built in March of 2009 that are being recalled are the ones built on one day - March 2nd. You have 30 chances out of 31 of being fine. I like those odds.

dauntless - For 2009 Maximas, this recall is not as widespread as some here seem to think. The dates involved are March 2, 2009 (ONE DAY ONLY), and the period from June 19 through August 3rd. The assembly line pretty much stopped making '09 Maximas in late July, and from that point to August 3rd, most '09s built were those that had been special ordered.

To repeat - The ONLY '09 Maximas built before June 19 2009 that may be recalled are those built on ONE day - March 2nd, 2009.

When was you '09 assembled? Except for Maximas built on one day (March 2nd, 2009), no Maximas built before June 19th, 2009 are affected by this suspension insulator recall.
