Saw the guys today. Materials are being delivered, and the tubes are still a few weeks out. They are working on a few projects at the same time (2011 Mustang especially), and their suppliers have been slammed, but rest assured, these intakes are coming.

I understand that they need time to produce theses units but they couldn't at least take some pics and provide some info on the 1 off device that became the benchmark to mass produce more units?

Here's a pic of the prototype. Keep in mind, that the actual system has been completed and they are just waiting for the tubes to be made/coated etc. There is an opening in the heatshield for the stock air dam.

Not bad.You stated they made a whole in the heat shield to allow the stock ram air to flow into the filter area?of course that can be seen from this pic i know.

Yup... had to point it out since it's not super-noticeable.

Don't know. They need to get all of the pieces/materials delivered to them, and then package everything up. Their tube supplier is pretty slammed now. I'd hope by the end of September.

P.S. For those that aren't aware, R2c is a side project for Greenlees/UA Filter, who have a DOD contract. Here's more info:

That looks awsome... That is going to be the best one out on the market and I can tell you now just by looks can't wait to see how it does performance wise. One thing that that I would like to ask is weather for those that have the strut bar if it is going to clear the strut bar or is there going to be fitment issues?

thats a good point. by the look of it, i think it will need some modification on the plastic around the filter to make the struct bar fit but i dont think that would be a problem

The heat shield is a thin metal so any mods needed to fit the strut bar shouldn't be a big deal.

Alpha, that's your engine bay, isn't it?

Ok that is great hopefully the fitment works out with the Strut bar I'll test that theory to see but I gotta say I am liking that the most out of everything out there cannot wait to get that on my car.

The heat shield around the open air filter should not be made of metal. It's either FG of CF.

It's not fiberglass or carbon fiber.

Good news! I hope Ed is right on this one! I will admit, the angle of the pic of the prototype isn't quite ideal. Fingers crossed for you guys!

I was trying to say that the heat shield SHOULD BE either fiber glass, plastic or carbon fiber.

Doesn't have to be CF. It can be a FG or Plastic but just not metal.

+1..... seems like a personal preference saying it MUST be CF or FG.... metal with a coating should do the job well

The whole idea for the CAI is COLD AIR. Metal heat shield absorbs heat greater and faster than the plastic, fg and CF. I'm 44 very soon, waisted lots of money on lots of cars, but I have never seen or heard metal heat shield being used for CAI.

Below is my bimmer's CAI with CF heat shield.

There won't be any difference whatsoever regardless of what heatshield material you use. This is isn't a Formula 1 car.

Just think about it.

What is the heat shield's objective?

Where is the heat shield? All I see is a duct work system and a open box that is sealed up against a hot hood.

I don't see this or any other aftermarket intake actually cooling the intake charge anymore than the stock OEM, in fact this system just like the Stillen utilizes the stock OEM air duct.

What I do see and the dyno results is a very modest performance improvement.

I have this R2C intake on my 370Z and although it looks fantastic and sounds great I can't say it has actually changed my autocross performance one bit.

Do I plan on getting one? Yes, the quality is first rate and at a minimum it just looks cool... LOL

But the filtration capabilities of the R2c filters are unmatched. That's the one major quality about these systems that's so often overlooked.

I used sheet metal on most of my race cars for heat sheild for lots of coponents. When I have the $$$ I use carbon instead. Not a deal breaker at all.

So then why is everone so excited about this CAI?? Not like its going to make 20 HP or anything...Its just a Maxima so how much better is this going to be??? This is like people who install Unorthodox pulleys on their car, and say it feels faster....

Your hp gain is at the top end. CAI, especially long ram tube loses torque at the bottom end.

Heat kills engine. As I stated earlier that metal heat shield will absorb heat much faster and greater than plastic or fg or CF.

During stop and go traffic with high outside temperature, that metal heat shield gets so hot that your air filter sucks on it.

Why do you think most car or all car manufaturer does not use metal engine covers... just imagine it.

I was only speaking of the heatshield material. Regardless of what is used, and temperature differences, if any, aren't going to be noticeable.

Why are people excited? The same reason anyone is excited over any new mod for any car. Plus the overlooked aspect of the R2c filters themselves. The best filtration capacity and flow in the industry. The Department of Defense wouldn't be using their filters if there were no benefits.

TY I own a K&N ...I dont need an explaination on how they work... (I race a 10inch tire old school car low 8s 165 MPH)...Due to the tight engine bay I think there will be some kind of heat soak no matter what kind of heat shield is used...And as far as the filter is concerned .. Cant you just buy the filter media from another vendor and just fit it to another CAI???
