R2C Performance Products Intake
#482
Saw the guys today. Materials are being delivered, and the tubes are still a few weeks out. They are working on a few projects at the same time (2011 Mustang especially), and their suppliers have been slammed, but rest assured, these intakes are coming.

Here's a pic of the prototype. Keep in mind, that the actual system has been completed and they are just waiting for the tubes to be made/coated etc. There is an opening in the heatshield for the stock air dam.

Don't know. They need to get all of the pieces/materials delivered to them, and then package everything up. Their tube supplier is pretty slammed now. I'd hope by the end of September.
P.S. For those that aren't aware, R2c is a side project for Greenlees/UA Filter, who have a DOD contract. Here's more info:

That looks awsome... That is going to be the best one out on the market and I can tell you now just by looks can't wait to see how it does performance wise. One thing that that I would like to ask is weather for those that have the strut bar if it is going to clear the strut bar or is there going to be fitment issues?

Alpha, that's your engine bay, isn't it?

The whole idea for the CAI is COLD AIR. Metal heat shield absorbs heat greater and faster than the plastic, fg and CF. I'm 44 very soon, waisted lots of money on lots of cars, but I have never seen or heard metal heat shield being used for CAI.
Below is my bimmer's CAI with CF heat shield.

Where is the heat shield? All I see is a duct work system and a open box that is sealed up against a hot hood.
I don't see this or any other aftermarket intake actually cooling the intake charge anymore than the stock OEM, in fact this system just like the Stillen utilizes the stock OEM air duct.
What I do see and the dyno results is a very modest performance improvement.
I have this R2C intake on my 370Z and although it looks fantastic and sounds great I can't say it has actually changed my autocross performance one bit.
Do I plan on getting one? Yes, the quality is first rate and at a minimum it just looks cool... LOL

So then why is everone so excited about this CAI?? Not like its going to make 20 HP or anything...Its just a Maxima so how much better is this going to be??? This is like people who install Unorthodox pulleys on their car, and say it feels faster....

Heat kills engine. As I stated earlier that metal heat shield will absorb heat much faster and greater than plastic or fg or CF.
During stop and go traffic with high outside temperature, that metal heat shield gets so hot that your air filter sucks on it.
Why do you think most car or all car manufaturer does not use metal engine covers... just imagine it.

Why are people excited? The same reason anyone is excited over any new mod for any car. Plus the overlooked aspect of the R2c filters themselves. The best filtration capacity and flow in the industry. The Department of Defense wouldn't be using their filters if there were no benefits.

Your hp gain is at the top end. CAI, especially long ram tube loses torque at the bottom end.
