Not to my liking. I had my resonators removed and gained a little sound at idle and all throttle levels. Waiting on axle back muffler kits. I would like more outside sound without interior vibrations.

I will let others try to describe the 7th gen exterior exhaust sound.

As for the internal 'sound generator', after building early test versions of the '09, Nissan found they had done too good a job of insulating the engine compartment from the passenger cabin, and the driver couldn't hear anything from the engine. So they set up a system where some sound from the intake area of the engine is modulated, then sent into the cabin, so the driver will feel some contact with what the engine is doing.

I'm sure that could be done, but I don't yet know how. Those driving the '09 say they really hear virtually nothing from the engine unless they get serious with the gas pedal.

If they made a quality exhaust system that alowed more outside rumble (not ricey) and minimal interior sound Id get one.

I'm cool with the Sound Generator, we don't want our cars to sound like a Rice Rocket Mobile, remember the Max is supposed to be a step up above all that childish crap like fat fart can exhausts and big tachometers sitting on the dash. I personally wouldn't want all that extra noise in the car, what we have is fine.

If it was possible to keep it at the same level inside and have the rumble outside like Staff Sergeant Dukes said then that would be acceptable.

I agree, leave that noise for the Honda's!

It's a small rumble. I'm coming off a Z28 which felt like the engine was in the car with you...the maxima is a nice subtle rumble but if you get on it a bit you definitely hear it.

I love the sound of my 09 Max.

Sounds just right.
Back in the day, I used to have a Civic Coupe with Flowmasters exhaust.
It was so loud that I couldn't even hear the music in my car.....

i actually wished the max was quiet like a hybrid.... i luv the way it sounds when the ignition is started, but i still prefer the stealth of the hybrid
