Motor Mount Questions
I know that on the 5.5 gen maxima's there are motor mounts with sensors in them. Which mounts have the sensors? I have had some people tell me the front and rear and some tell me just the front

As long as this question was already answered, I have another: do most people swap only the lower motor mounts? IIRC there are two on the side of the engine as well. Is this only due to an available upgrade/greater failure of the lower mm versus the side ones? I'm assuming I'll just take a peek at all four and see if any or all need replacement.

The lower mounts (also referred to as) torque mounts, if you want the engine to sit perfectly still without any rocking front to back the guys will swap these mounts for ES polyurethane mounts. Changing these mount out reduces wheel hop, and torque steer allowing the engine power to go straight to the wheels and ground. The side mounts usually get changed when one notices any tears in them or experience hearing any clunking noises. Mine is an automatic so yes there is only the one electronic front mount which is left unplugged when you swap the mount out. You will notice an increase in the cars vibration when you are at idle, but you would experience no vibration when the car is in motion.
This is an excellent mod, and I am very happy that I had mine swapped out.

It's not really a sensor. The mounts have some kind of ferrofluid in them which when activated by an electrical signal makes them stiff. Thus, when you are at idle the mounts are soft and they get hard once you hit a certain RPM.
In my 01 GLE I swapped out the mounts for non fluid filled mounts from eBay. I put them in at about 167K and am now at 199K without any issues.
There is a minor vibration at idle which is barely noticable.
One of the biggest reasons folks swap out mounts is:
A short in the mount will cause your ECM to go bye bye... and yes other put in the poly mounts as a mod too!
By switching them out... if you have high miles is a kind of save yourself move.
Thats what I did.
