Dash lights

I just installed a backup camera in my 04 max that works with my pioneer avh4200DVD. I saw people post to tap into the reverse light to make it work. So after hours of having my car apart and finally getting it to work I was at ease.

But now I have another issue. For some reason when I turn my car on, the dash lights go on, but when I turn my headlights on they turn off. I first tried to check the dimmer switch but that didn't fix the problem. I then check all the fuses in the car, and they were all fine. I then check all the fuses outside in the engine area, they were fine. Then my friend suggested to switch my relays in and out with another one to see if one of them went bad. Yeah, that didnt work either. I did not have this problem before I did this job. Did anyone who installed a reverse cam in their car have this issue? I just want to fix it and still have my reverse cam working properly. In the mean time I am going to disconnectthe wire that I spliced into the reverse light by my taillightto seeifthatfixes the problem. ThankS

Edit-

So I got a service engine light come on and it is throwing 5 codes, Damn

P1614 X 2
U1001 X 2
U1000 X 2
P0183
P0462

Can this be all caused from a ground issue I made?

did you try disconnecting the wire you connected to the camera and see if that worked?

Yeah tried that, and even disconnected the wire that powers the camera. My friend made me test the dimmer switch wire plug and it is getting power when I turn on my lights. Saying it is probably the resistor in the dimmer switch. What do yall think?

On the harness adapter for the dvd player try disconnecting the orange and orange w white and see if that solves the problem. Those are dimmer wires and I have heard of feed back on the org/wht wire when a cam is installed... Ive never seen it my self just read about it once on a 12v forum.

It thats the prob you may need to diode isolate the wires.... hopefully no damage was done to the can system

You know what I have those connected on my wire harness and sometimes it bothers me that it dims. Eden though I set it up that way. I will try that out and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks.

Tried it out and no dice. Going to switch out the dimmer switch and if that doesn't fix it. Going to take it to the stealership.

So I made a jumper wire from the red/yellow wire to the black wire from the dimmer switch plug. Tested it out to see what the dash lights would do and they stayed on. So I really think it is the dimmer switch, it might be more than that but that is going to be one thing out the way. I just ordered it from courtesyparts and wont get the part (illumination control switch) until next week. After I get the part I will reset ECU to get rid of the check engine light. I will then drive around to see if it comes back up and figure out what codes are left if there are any. Will report back with my findings.

O, also on another forum someone had my same problem and someone suggested to check the fuse for the tail lamp. Mine was not blown but replaced it anyways and it didn't fix my problem either.

Fixed the problem

So after receiving the dimmer switch form courtesy parts today it fixed the problem. I rest the ECU to get rid of the service engine light and it has not come back on. I drove my car for 15 minutes straight, turning lights on, using the blinkers, turning on hazards, turning lights on and off. After all that dash lights work fine and no service engine light. Did one last test and went to walmart to buy new wiper blades and no engine light so I think I am good. Just putting this out there for anyone in this scenario. Who would have thought that the dimmer switch going bad would throw those 5 codes. Now I am going to treat myself to some rims to complete all the mods I have done to my car.
