Hi all,

I was looking for mounts and boots to go with the struts I am planning on putting into my car soon. I shopped around and did some searches but didn't find much on Tokico mounts. Seems like people on here don't like KYB mounts very much. I haven't called Dave B to find out about OEM, but has anyone tired the Tokico mounts and boots? The link below says mounts and booths for $11.XX + $10 shipping ?!?!

I'm going to call in and confirm so I don't end up with just boots for 20 a piece or something, but has anyone had experience with the Tokico mounts? Do they fit fine? If they are considerably cheaper than OEM, I'm willing to buy them if they fit fine. Link below:

**PS - I believe that's just for boots. Double checked and the part number is for boots. Mounts cost $37.XX + $10 shipping. What's the best price for mounts i wonder..., but I'd still like to hear opinions

I never saw anyone saying that they didn't like the KYB mounts. I just had them installed on my car along with KYB boots and everything seems ok.

You can also look into Moog mounts. They always seem to make a solid product.

I paid $98 for Moog Strut Mounts at EnergySuspensionParts.com. They come with new strut bolts, and that ring (bearing, bushing, whatever). They looked just fine to me. IDK... my mechanic liked them. He's a big fan of Moog parts.

You might want to consider painting them before installation, because once they're on, you won't be removing them just because you want them in metallic black. Know what I mean?

I'm guessing that if I'm going to change my struts, I might as well change my mounts and replace the boots? It just seems so expensive. 300 ish for gr2's, 100 just for mounts and another 50-80 for boots. thats 480 and i'm not even lowering the car =/.

I have 120k on the car right now and i bought it used at 116k. I don't know what's been done to the car in terms of suspension but it looks pretty much stock. Should i replace my mounts? I guess the boots are a must. Should I not reuse boots if they aren't torn at all?

i would advise against KYB mounts. i have used their shocks for years in many of my cars, but my rear shock mounts in my max did not hold up. 20k miles and they look like a dog chewed them. ( i will post pics once i have permission...still newb)

It wasn't necessary to replace my rear strut mounts, which seems to be a common approach here in the 5th gen forum. Just front mounts. The consensus opinion (IMO) is to replace front mounts when replacing struts.

As to dust boots (bellows, covers, whatever)... even at 60K and 8 winters, my OEM dust boots were fine. Cleaned them up and reconditioned them with silicon spray. I don't believe that's a common experience, however, and that most people should replace the dust boots.

With all the installs I've done, I prefer Moog for mounts because the bearing is included. KYB is a decent second choice.

For boots, I stick with OEM. I'm simply not a fan of the generic 'bellows' that exist out there.

I just did a big write up about 6 months back on all of this on an 03. Pics and all.

To OP I would suggest definitely replace your boots and your front mounts. I changed all 4 to be on the safe side. I was running 20's for 3+ years and the new suspension rides just like stock and after you spend the 480 + install price you'll realized its much worth it and like riding in a new maxima again.

Just my opinion anyways - If you got extra cash hanging around or want to save up for lowering, maybe looking into the TEIN SS coilovers -From my years on the boards and the reviews I've heard they're worth every penny of the $1100 or so. If youre not in a rush that is.

Sorry for double posting, but in thanks for the suggestion Sterling. I love my car but I'm not really looking to lower it. I want to just keep it pretty much stock. I'm still in college and will be starting school soon and don't want to spend all my money on my car. I've heard they're really good as well, but with $1100, id rather spend it to fix other things the car might need. Thanks again for the suggestion though.

Thanks alot for the info. It seems like you're very knowledgeable in all the topics I ask about and I'm getting used to seeing at least one response from you that gives a good answer lol. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. If the common thing is to not replace the rear mounts, which I don't really see them going bad yet if I don't even thing my front mounts are bad, then I'll leave them. I'm changing the struts and the rear shocks, so I'll change the front mounts and leave the rear ones? That's your suggestion right? As for boots, 2 of them seem to be fine, but I think I should just change those.

if the common thing is to not change out the rear mounts, which i didnt do when I swapped. then why have I recently been hearing clunking in the rear on ocasions? could it be my illuminas going? (40k on them)

Rear strut mounts need not be changed.

Might just be something that needs to be torqued down. Clunking is not a type of noise that occurs when struts are on their way out. And with 40k miles I especially doubt it's the struts.

Could be any number of things. Rear Control Arm bushing might be shot.
