Over July 4th weekend, I forgot to unload a 12 package of Diet Coke from my car resulting in a celebratory explosion of all but 2 cans.

How the heck do I get the stains off my headliner? What a mess!!

When I got my maxima stolen (for the 350z track editions), they spray cherry coke all over.

If you put a diluted mixture of woolite in a bucket and use a white cloth, you'll probably get most of it out. You just can't drench the headliner though.

those might work. Resolve you might have to be careful with. ie.. discoloration. I suggested Wool lite as it's probably the most mild.

my concern would be less on how well it removes the coke, but rather how dirty the rest of the 16+ year old head liner will be left.
I got lucky; when my Mountain Dew blew up (two or three cans in a 12 pack),
it mostly stayed in the box; got all over the leather seats, but I caught it right after it happened, so it wasn't a horrible deal.

Replace the headliner. Why bother cleaning it? You can probably get all pieces for about $15 at the junkyard.

yeah theyre cheap at the junkyard, here theyre a couple bucks so when i had my stock seats before the Sparcos i kept a spare pair just incase.

A timely reminder not to leave your boxes of cans of coke, pepsi, mountain dew etc in the actual car.....PUT THEM IN THE TRUNK PEOPLE....lol

Ive never had a can explode in the car, but have had a bottle overflow when the top was opened, and the resulting mess from the small amount that made it into the carpet was a pain to clean up.

One day i was cleaning my dash with an armorall wipe and for for some reason i decided to try and get a soda stain off of my windshield pillar post and it did suprisingly well in getting rid of the stain so i used it throughout my tan interior and it prooved a useful tool in stain fighting also on tough little stains ive seen brakleen take them right out because it dissolves so quickly...

i had something like that too i gunned it out of Dairy Queen with a pop in the cupholder, and of course 3rd gen cupholders suck and the pop flew onto the passenger floor and i had a tidlewave of Pepsi on the floor

i never bring food in the car now

I have some of the interior trim pieces left from the parts car. Someone said they wanted the front pillars and sunroof cover but never got back to me. If you need those, send a PM.

As for cleaning stains, you might want to try one of those carpet cleaners at the car wash on the headliner. It might work. The worst case scenario is you need to replace it. Like Hectic said, you could get that from a boneyard pretty cheap.

If you have the time you could always pull it down and out and.., steam clean it...? I used this thing call tuff stuff for stains from soda on my floor so that might work too.

steam cleaning will ruin an otherwise good headliner. it breaks down the adhesive, and you end up with a saggy liner.
stains would look better, imo.

+1 on painting it, just plastic up your whole interior and spray away with some fabric paint, i wouldnt go black tho i would do a metallic gold or red, just imagine walking up to a car getting in and seeing an off the wall colored headliner. I think it could be a new trend...

I didnt think about that part...u can always buy some 3M adhesive and get it back up there...

or u can just take down the whole thing and redo it in something else instead of the cloth thats up there...I mean if you have the time it would be a nice lil project if u want to spend the time and money on it... I seen one guy on here who sprayed it black and it looked darn good... i dont remember where it was tho if i see it ill post it its up to u tho

lol if you take what i said about using red or frikin metallic gold to paint your headliner as serious even with a laughing face at the end then you really need to get a sence of humer buddy i was just messing.. but honestly i wasnt joking about using fabic paint to hide the stains if you didnt want to take the whole thing out...i found almost exact color upholstery paint and sprayed my back seat where a red can of car paint exploded... it looked like i either shot some 1 or a chick on her . was sitting there anyhoo it works well and looks good to spray it...

If you think painting a headliner with any kind of paint is a good idea, can you blame me for thinking you might be serious about painting it red or gold? Anyway, what I was asking is, if you were serious about painting it at all. That's extremely ghetto. Did you ever see that episode of Forensic Files where cops placed the victim in the suspect's car because the dumbass spray painted his headliner and small paint particles were all over the car and on the victim's body?

Would you paint your clothes? Next time you stain a shirt, go to the store and buy some fabric paint, spray it red or gold or whatever, see how that works out for you.

i used black fabric paint on my 91 se headliner a few years ago
its holding up fine even the sliding part
i did remove it and paint and dry it outside
when i was swapping in the whole sunroof assembly

LOl, where's the OP? Grab a can of FOAMING carpet cleaner and spray it on. It will draw the soda to the surface and then you can wipe it away with a clean damp terry towel. Do it in sections and you may need something to keep it out of your eyes. You may also want to have a scrub brush handy. Good luck to you.
