Recently, I've noticed that when I close my front passenger side door, my doors lock. What do you suppose could cause that madness.

Yes, I am glad someone bought up this issue as I have the same thing but mine is much weirder. Sometimes when I unlock all doors and enter from driver's side, all doors lock without key placed into ignition. Now, another day, I unlocked all doors and went in from passenger door and started the car. When I closed the door, all doors locked except for passenger front. Is this an alarm issue or main switch issue or something else entirely?

Same locking scenarios as you. To a tee. They'll also lock when the car is on and I'm cruising down the road.

might be nothing but do you have dampening on the inside of your doors?

Nothing inside the doors at all. Everything is still stock..even my original speakers is in there and they need changing because they dry rotted from the heat but they still work. Well, when I turn the car to on before I start it up, all the doors lock when the O/D light comes off. If one of the doors is open during that time, the doors will not lock and will not lock driving down the road until I or a passenger locks it.

Mine does this too.

Sometimes it will lock all four after I start the car, other times they won't lock at all...wacky!

hmm

maybe something in the switches is either shorted out from the master switch. or passenger side. But if it is locking all doors. I'd check the master switch to see if it has a short or anything in it.

I had a 300ZX that did the exact same thing. It was the power door lock assembly in the drivers side door. On the ZX, Nissan placed a lock switch inside the latch assembly that could lock the passenger door whenever the driver would use his key or the door lock thingy in the handle to lock the door. The switch went bad and caused my locks to "re-lock" and lock randomly. It was so bad, I could hear my car at night trying to lock itself. I ended up replacing the latch assembly.
Maybe the same thing for your Maxima's?

Yeah...its either a short in locking wires or its the power lock assembly itself. SInce it still works, i bet its a lose wire.

I'll take the panel off sometime soon to take a peak. Any idea's as to how much this little bugger costs if I have to replace it. Also curious to know if y'all can give me a ballpark idea as to where it is in the door. I dampened my door and would hate to have to take it all off searching for it if I covered it up.

here's a pic of my door...can you see it or is it hiding?

all my doors unlock when i unlock my driver door and when i turn back the key to pull it out of the key hole all the doors lock up. i would have to do it again and it unlocks all the doors. so in other words, it takes me 2 trys to unlock my doors, and this only happens with the driver door...

sometimes the wires in the door boots get cracked over time fro bending...if they are in bad condition, they can short out and lock or unlock your doors when you open or close them...which bends the wires and can make them contact each other.

it is either that or something loose in one of your switches...

the switch they're talking about looks something like this

you had to take that off before removing door panel. and i also notice your picture is of the driver side if your passenger door is causing it, look on that side. try unplugging it and then close your door to see if it still does it. its gonna be quite a bit different on the right side but im willing to bet money you're smart enough to figure it out

Thanks for the pic and yup, that makes sense. I think someone may have mentioned that the switch was on the drivers. I'll pull that pass door off sometime soon. I have to take it off anyways since my window is stuck up and I think my regulator is junk too. Doubly awesome.

No there isn't but if you manually lock it with the ****, it will lock all doors but not unlock them all.

I've sent him the wrong way but yes there is, but not something I've looked at ie. I don't know where the trigger is. It's at least not as simple as unplugging the switch w/o even removing the door.

Sorry to go a little offtopic and not contribute to the locking issue but I'm considering dampening my car for sound and I was wondering if you also put this stuff INSIDE the door or just where you have it in the picture?

OK, I just looked at FSM and there seems to be a door unlock sensor in the lock actuator. It's feed by wire 4 of the harness and is grounded when the door is unlocked. Perhaps you have a bad ground that is dislodged momentarily when you close the door making the sensor think you've locked it whenever your door closes.

No need to be sorry. And yup, I put some on the inside, most notably on the inside where the speaker goes. As far as on the other openings, some but not a ton. In the event that I need more PDR done, trying to get dings out through the dampener would be a mother fricker. I'd basically have to take off the panel and peel the dampener off and put it all back on after every time. Big PITA and not worth it. Plus it'll add even more weight to the door. Don't want any hinge issues to go with my window and lock ones.
