i need to have my flex pipe replaced. my mechanics price is $200 for him to get me one and install it. my brother is telling me i should just get a warpspeed stainless steel y pipe because it wont rust but i have no intention on doing anything to my car like that. my mechanic told me that its a bad idea but i dont know if hes just saying that to get the job. what should i do? is it easy to just go to a junk yard and get one and have my brother (who has the same car and works on his all the time) install it or would i need a mechanic to put it in? let me know your thoughts

junkyard should do it for about 65 bucks..
thats how much i did mine it took like 20 mins and he even used the tall one that supports more back pressure =]

wait the junk yard installed it for you? ohh well id definitely rather do that and save a lot of money lol

just go to the one by citi field or anything thats closer to you.

I would suggest you get a warpspeed ypipe, I just got mine installed last week and its great..you should check out nycmaximas.org

yup install of cutting and welding in a new flex pipe just get a new ypipe.
you will replace the flex pipe in the process and gain some power too.

You may even get of few MPG out of the deal

since you have no intention of aftermarket parts, flex pipes are easily replaceable but i dunno how much a junkyard would charge you...might be a lot for labor.

Well my mechanic had said that if I do get that ypipe I could run into some problems and that I should just keep it stock bc something won't read correctly? Or something like that.. but if its not gonna cause problems then ill just save to get the stainless steel ypipe bc it won't rust....how much do you think it wiwill cost to be installed?

Unless you have a cali spec car then your mechanic is full of **** and I would go somewhere else. Do you have a oxygen sensor after the main catalytic converter under the car? If yes then go to another mechanic.

dont worry i realized that those mechanics dont know ****..
and no just get a y-pipe.. cheapest that you can find, it adds a lot of power, and will solve your flex pipe, and adds a nice tone

besides you can even do it yourself without any welding cause all youre gonna do is remove the old one and replace it with the new pipe =]

It will still be silenced by your muffler and resonator it's just less restrictive, it will be louder than stock (unless you're already leaking)

My original one somehow collapsed into itself. Not sure off that is the best term for it, but there was steel mesh inside that flex pipe for some reason, The precat went and it did the rest of the job clogging the exhaust so the car basically limped like it was down 5 cylinders.

It may be a little louder then stock but it shoudnt be a huge issue. Replace the ypipe or flexpipe when you can

Doesn't leak as far as I could tell - no noise and no air coming out under idle or revving it up. Let it chill until the damage becomes obvious. Thanks, guys!

I had mine in that state about 2-3 years ago and it is just starting to show signs of "leakage". So don't bother doing anything to an exhaust pipe until you have to. The exhaust only gets worst with the time.
