stupid rear cupholder question...
hey guys, stupid question for ya...
I previously thought that my rear cupholder was broken because I thought that the inner piece (the one that stays in the console when you slide the tray out and is the same shape as the tray inner dimensions) was some kind of insert that had just gotten stuck inside of the console. I now realize that this is not the case b/c I couldn't get the piece out and b/c it's not big enough to hold anything anyway. But I find it odd that the cupholder has holes in the bottom of it (the actual tray part) and that it's not really well-shaped to hold anything. Is it possible that the previous owner lost the removable insert (or is there even one?)? Because if this is what the cupholder is supposed to look like, then Nissan did a pretty poor job with the rear cupholder.
Sorry if it's too confusing.
Thanks,
Brian

I know this is an old post, but I have an answer for future searchers:
The rear cupholder in my 2001 i30 has that same weird sliding plate, and just like you guys I thought it was stuck on the inside.
I had my console out to change the shift position bulb and wanted to check the cupholder out. It seems like the mystery piece we're discussing is actually a shield to keep things from falling INTO the console and messing with the wiring harnesses housed within.
I could be very wrong though, but I drew this conclusion after seeing that there's really no way for the drawer to open and close with that piece on the outside.

While this is up, and since the thread really isnt going anywhere at the moment....
Is it just me or do the front cup holders suck in our cars too??? Everytime I push a cup into the holder to get it snug, when I go to grab it the whole cupholder comes up with it!!!
Is it just mine or does everyone's do that?
Sorry.....i've been wanting to ***** about this for a while, and I finally found a chance to do it!

That same thing happens to me as well. At least you know our cups are safe and they won't fall while you're driving The downside is when you're driving and you reach to get a drink, you'll be drinking your cup with the cup holder attached to it lmao It just sucks when you go to a fast food place, you get your meal and when you're home, your hands are full and you reach in to grab your cup, and you just cant

I think we need to rename this thread "The definitive cupholder thread"
and sticky it!!!!
