I have a 02 max, build date 09/01. Im pretty sure the maf is bad because i went to start it after work the other day it would start fine and run for about 5 secs, start chugging like it was running out of gas and die. It did this several times every time i tried to start it. Has never had a ses light come on or any noticible drop in performance before this. I unplugged the maf and it started and idled fine. I drove it 15 miles home at 55mph and it seemed to run ok with the maf unplugged except if i tried to accelerate to hard it would bog out. The ses light is now on im sure from the unplugged maf. I took the sensor out of the housing and am going to try cleaning it with crc. The problem is there is no numbers anywhere on the housing or on the sensor itself. It has the thermistor wire on the sensor. Is this the newer more expensive 02-03 sensor or do the 01 sensors also have this thermistor wire? Im thinking this must be some aftermarket piece of junk as i can find no numbers on it anywhere.
