Was wondering if anyone here knows off hand the possibility of flushing out the torque converter on an 05 Automatic transmission. I have been told it was not possible and it is possible. Any suggestions as to the best way to do a ATF flush? I'm looking into getting it done in the spring time.

i have a 05 max too and i asked the dealership about a transmission flush at 60k miles, but they recommended a drain and fill instead

I recently had my transmission cooler seal replaced and during the process I lost close to 4 liters of matic-k fluid. I noticed right away though the difference in the acceleration and shifting of my tranny was much better. So since I have about 4 litres of ATF replaced, I guess it would make it cleaner and not as much crud in my transmission. Now when I asked the dealer initially they said they could flush out the torque converter. When I asked a 3rd party transmission place they said it's not possible to run the machine to take out all of the old fluid. Now at the cost of 3rd party place to flush it out for me if it is just a drain and fill sequence. I think I am better off getting me some Amsoil ATF and doing it myself as draining and filling is not a hard procedure to do.

My boss owns some commercial properties, one of which is a transmission shop. I asked them about this and told me that you can drain all the fluid from the pan, then start the car, but DO NOT DRIVE IT OR SHIFT GEARS, and all or most of the fluid will drain out of the converter. Have not tried this myself, yet.

I heard of this as well, and that you would actually be draining like 11.7 litres? there has to be someone on the forum who does this.

Guys that do this method are old school, if you don't know what your doing you will burn your transmission out, your better off just doing a drain and refill every oil change or every other oil change

I've made expensive mistakes with cars and have seen guys make even worse mistakes that I made, I would avoid any back yard mechanics on modern costly cars, or at least check you area for transmissions, and all other cost before you go and attempt this

Ya I was thinking the same thing, unless I had absolute proof that this is doable then I would do it. When you mention backyard mechanics, it's kind of like a different mentality. My Dad falls under that category, I fall more on the engineering **** side.

Drain and fill is all you need. If you really want to get the old stuff out, do it twice over the course of a few weeks.

not to get off topic but i got a 07 with the cvt trans and if i drive it hard for a lil bit and i come to a stop when i get on it again it puts out a lil bit like not as much gas is being put into the engine or is the trans slipping and also if i drive hard in triptronic some times it get hot and doesnt let me downshift and stuff is trans going bad? or what should i do help!!

I never flush my two Maximas. Every two yrs I go with a drain and refill.

You can't flush these cars there's no where to hook up the flush machine in line to do it, and I would not take the pan off JMO, but your just asking for problems there especially with the newer vehicles and especially if you "don't know" LOL

I didn’t flush mine at the recommended 30k mark, but I did do it near the 60k mark (58k) for the first time and have not had any problems since then. Rough downshifts disappeared and shifts are really smooth. I’m nearing the 90k mark and will do another flush without hesitation.

From what I have heard is that if you have never done a flush and you’re over ~85k then just drain and refill.

Had mine drained and filled at 60K, tranny fluid is expensive, it is a special kind made by Nissan.

I have about 110K on my '05, i just herd of this proceedure and think i'm gonna do t but what do u suggest? flush or drain& refill and what type of fluid should i use?

NEVER EVER FLUSH a transmission. It does more damage than good in the end. Do a drain and fill as another member suggested.
