HOW TO: Add aux to stock bose...
Mods, please move this to the how-to sticky if necessary.
Warning to 56k: pics are large size.
I found a way to add a aux input to the bose in my 95 easily and at a low cost. You simply have to add a few soldered wires on the bottom of the head unit PCB. You'll need a small switch, wire, solder, and rca or 1/8" jacks.
Here's how to do it.
1. Remove the bose unit from the car. Instructions for doing so are available here (the removal procedure should be the same for bose as non-bose). http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/647021.pdf.
2. Remove the bottom cover from the bose unit. You will see this:
3. Solder the following wires. I determined where the L+, L-, R+, R- wires go by using a multimeter in conductivity mode and tracing the pins from the CD changer connector. The labels on the picture are from memory so please double check them with a multimeter. The pin out diagram for the CD changer connector was found here: http://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Nissan2.htm.
Solder connections labeled:
That's it! Solder your desired audio connector to the L and R wires, and install a switch between the AUX-ON and GND. Put the unit back in the car and mount the switches and connectors where you want. I mounted the switch next to the shifter and left the RCA wires loose inside the armrest console.
If you did everything right, it should look like this:
The input level was a little low compared to CD and Radio, so turn down the volume before switching. The head unit will power off when AUX mode is deselected. Also, the input source is audiable no matter what source is selected, so you have to turn the source off when using radio or cd.
EDIT: For 97-99 Units, the "aux-on" needs to be connected to "rx" through a switch, NOT a ground! (Thanks Nismo3112 for discovering this).

dude... do you know what AUX is?
One of the greatest inventions in the audio world ! You can basically connect any audio device into the HU, such as Ipods, any mp3 players, cd players (not that you need it) etc. with out buying stupid converters and shyt.

sweet, now i can finally wire in my ipod!!! i hate the FM reception with that thing.

Thanks to Dan, now we dont have to spend 150+ on some part that us 95-96ers dont know if it even works. Oh glorious day!
dan.... what kinda cord did you use? 2 different ones: the yellow ones shown and then wire them to the RCA cables?
also, would you by chance know how to wire those yellow cables to the standard iPod pin cable so that we could also charge it?
i'll prolly just wire that some other way, but if you knew how, that'd rock this mod beyond all others!

I soldered panel mount rca jacks and then covered with heat shrink tubing.

I don't have an ipod, but something like this should get you started.

I use a rio karma, which has a dock with standard RCA outputs. I then use a patch cable to go from RCA on the bose to RCA on the dock.

I dont know what i would use a pinout for my ipod, because i wouldnt be able to control it and see the songs through the bose HU anyway.
Id just use the 1/8" Stereo MiniPlug to plug it in. but i may do as u did and run RCA jacks then plug a Y(rca's to Miniplug) into that. that should do the trick incase i ever get rid of my car someone else might like to use a cd player or something.

I am an engineering student, but I have to admit that my dad did the soldering for me. He does soldering everyday so needless to say he has some practice. I used ms paint to add the labels to the pic of the PCB.
I have no idea if it will work for non-bose. Take it apart and see if there is a AUX-ON turn on connection like on the bose.

so im currently re-lighting my car with blue leds and the like... so i already have the stereo and everything else out, cept gauges... but i'm gonna try this tonight, and mount the switch where the coin holders are. I'm also trying to make the bose HU lights blue as well as the displays on both the climate control and the stereo.
one question to dan though, (and i did some research and got mixed answers) for the RCA panel mounts, whats the standard for +/-? is the outside of the RCA mount +? and inner -?
wish me luck and i'll let ya'll know how it turns out in a day or so

so i got it to work. did the soldering, that wasnt too bad. i cut a small piece of the metal backing off so that the wires could go out without being pinched. tested it and it works nicely. the volume settings have to be adjusted once the AUX unit (iPod in my case) is being used, but i'll live. i mounted my switch where the coin holders were and i'll prolly post some pix of my re-done wiring of the whole interior once my gf gets back so i can borrow her digicam.

shoot, im a music major and i haven't done solder for years... i fergot how i learned, but this definetly aint surgery...(i know, i just had my appendix taken out)
Dan, where did you run your cord to yer player? i ran mine 1/8 jack between the buttons on the e-brake boot for the time being cuz i havent figured anything cool for it yet.
