i would try calling a different shop...it sounds like they don't want to rebuild it and is giving you the "it's un-rebuildable" because they can't do it. i mean how do they know it can't be done over the phone? that's strange.
to rebuild it is anywhere from 800 to 2000 depending on your location, the quality of rebuild, etc etc.
