Why pay $40-$50 for Nissan or Infiniti to program your keyless entry remote when you can do it for FREE? You can do it yourself with step-by-step easy to follow directions.
Reprogram Key Fob
QX4, 1997-2001 Q45, I30, 1999-up G20
To reprogram (enter new ID) key fob (keyless remote controller) follow the steps.
1. Close all doors and lock all doors
2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder more than six times within 10 seconds.
(The hazard warning lamp will then flash.)
Note:
Key should be withdrawn from ignition key cylinder completely each time.
3. Insert key on ignition key cylinder and turn ignition key switch to "AAC" position
At this time, the new ID code is entered and original (previous) ID codes are erase.
4. Push any button on the new remote controller once. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash)
If there is only one remote controller skip step 5.
5. Additional ID code entry
Release the door lock, then lock again with door lock/unlock switch
(In power window main switch)
6. Remove key from ignition
7. Unlock driver side door, open driver side door and then close the door. (END)
Note:
-If you need to activate more than two additional new remote controllers, repeat the procedure on step 5 "Additional ID code entry" for each new remote controller.
-Entry of maximum four ID codes is allowed and any attempt to enter more will be ignore.

Reprogram Key Fob
J30, 1994-1996 Q45, 1994-1996 G20
To reprogram (enter new ID) key fob (keyless remote controller) follow the steps.
1. Close all doors and lock all doors
2. From the door switch unlock the trunk.
3. Insert and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder six times within 10 seconds.
Note:
-Key should be withdrawn from ignition key cylinder completely each time.
-At this time, the new ID code is entered and original (previous) ID codes are erase.
4. Manually unlock and lock the driver side door
5. Push any button on the new remote controller once.
If there is only one remote controller skip step 6.
6. Additional ID code entry
Repeat step 4 and 5
7. END.
Note:
-If you need to activate more than two additional new remote controllers, repeat the procedure on step 6 "Additional ID code entry" for each new remote controller.
-Entry of maximum four ID codes is allowed and any attempt to enter more will be ignore.

How do you program a new ignition key with chip?
Unfortunately, that can only be done at the dealer. To program the key it is necessary to have a Infiniti Computer and a special program and password.

I know this is an old thread but I am trying to do this on my '01 I30 with a keyfaub I bought off ebay that is suppose to work for this model. The key faub says Nissan on it. HERE is the ebay link. When I do step 4, nothing happens. I do not get the hazard flash like I thought I was suppose too. I have tried doing step 3 where I turn the key and only the radio is on and also turning the key and the dash lights come on but still no luck with step 4. I have replaced the battery in the remote also. Any thoughts.

See above - and make sure that you have the right key fob. Some of the ones offered on ebay are incorrect. The most common FCC number is KBRASTU10.

you dont have to unlock the doors, you just hit a button on the second or third key fob, the lights will flash for every different key fob programmed, up to 4.

Can you program an old QX4 key fob to an I30? If not how likely will a new Key Fob purchased from Ebay or online somewhere work? Any help will be nice. Thanks

no, because the QX4 key fob does not have the trunk open button, if you get one from ebay make sure it has lock on top, then unlock, then trunk open, then panic.

Didn't want to make a new thread for this question, but does anyone know if like the I35 remote would work for an I30? Like for a 2002+ Maxima. Just in case I need a new remote in the future and I kinda like that one more than the ones I have.

Just because it is a Nissan key fob remote doesn't mean squat. Nissan changes the key fob remote frequency from time to time, so what works with one year doesn't always work with the next year car.

For reasons like this, it is MANDATORY that you tell us the year and model of your car.

Unfortunately, the answer is no.

There are 2 different remotes for the i30, one for 96 to 99 and another for 2000 & 2001. In 2002, a 3rd remote was used for the i35 and Maxima.

I have a fob that works on and off, I replaced the battery too and that did nothing. I'm guessing this will make it work?

if it works on and off, then your problem is likely cold solder joints on the fob itself. If you know how to solder, re-flow all the joints and give it a good cleaning

Amerikaner could be right but another thing that can happen is that muck and yuck builds up beneath the plastic membrane that has the buttons and the switches on the printed circuit board. Cleaning with rubbing alcohol and a tooth brush will usually fix this, but I've has some where the crud destroyed the switches.

Good point, Dennis. I forgot how dirty those things can tend to get.

So I don't know how to solder...I'll give this a shot anyway. If not, do you have any suggestions?

Resurrecting this thread - my 2003 Maxima GLE won't go into "Programmable mode" after the 6+ key inserts/removals within 10 seconds. I.e. the hazards don't flash.

I also noticed the FCC id on the remotes I purchased is KBRASTU15, not 10. The model # is ASTU15, if that's relevant. Manufacturer Calsonis Kensel Corp.

The FCC ID for the 2003 i35 is KBRASTU15, the number you have. KBRASTU10 is for the 2000 & 2001 i35.

I can't say why the remote isn't working. Are you sure it has a battery in it? Are you sure the battery is good?

Why did you but a new remote? Did the old one stop working?

If the remote is good (something you have to verify functionally, not just say "well, it's new") then there may be a problem with the car. The antenna may not be picking upthe signal or the SECU module is bad.

But, just in case, here is the programming procedure that is definitely correct.

To program the remote(s) follow this procedure.

1. Unlock all doors and get in car.

2. Close and lock all doors with power door lock switch on driver's door.

3. Insert the ignition key and completely remove it at least 6 times
within 10 seconds. The hazard warning lamps (both turn signals) will
then flash twice and all previous codes will be cleared.

4. Turn ignition key to "ACC" position.

5. Push any button on the new remote control key fob once. At this time,
the car learns the new ID code. The hazard warning lamps (both turn
signals) will then flash twice.

If you are programming just one remote, go to step 10.
If you need to activate additional remote controllers, continue with Step 6.

6. Manually unlock the driver's door only then lock again with door lock
****.

7. Push lock button on the additional remote controller once.

8. Hazard warning lamps (both turn signals) will then flash twice and
additional remote is programmed.

9. For additional remotes, go back to step 6.

10. When done, open the driver's door to exit programming state.

NOTE: A maximum of 4 remotes can be programmed to any ONE car.

OK - believe it or not, I was doing the 6 in-and-outs too fast. I emailed the fob vendor and they said something about not too slow or too fast, so I slowed down and the flashers blinked. So...I'm good now.

Got the new remotes because new batteries in the old one didn't work.

Very happy to be able to get the windows down before getting in the car on hot sunny days.
