2008 opinions

Yea i have a 2001 nissan maxima se for 9 yrs now . best car ever. Strong engine. I looked at a 2008 today , ended up not getting it. Drove it a couple blocks , looked under the hood and the radiator was smoking!
Ive replaced many things on my car over the years and i have always looked to this org. For opinions, answers, or just read up on certain issues. So i appreciate your reply.

Some issues a family member had on a 2007 (owned since new): engine burns oil, radiator cracked, multiple air con leaks, ignition coils failed, steering shaft failure, clock spring failure, fuel gauge, power seat. The trans is still going but feels strange at slow speeds. Then there's the rust depending on your climate. Check the floor pans and exhaust for rust. After that there are multiple regular wear items to check, especially rubber parts like bushings and engine mounts.

IMO mostly all Maxima's are pretty good cars, if they are properly maintained. I've personally owned 3 over the years, a 97 SE, 5 speed, with 152k miles. A 2003 SE, 6 speed, with 160k miles and now a 2010 SV, currently with 198k miles and counting. If the radiator was smoking on the car you drove it was due to be changed, which is an easy fix. The radiators on these cars are made of plastic and after 15 years would definitely need to be replaced. The only reason I skipped buying a 6th Gen Maxima was because I didn't like the "toaster" sunroof on them. Other than that, I think they are good cars.
