Looking at a 6-gen

Just spotted a 6-gen on CL for less than $4k with 140k miles on it. Haven't had a chance to read thru the forums on this gen yet (prior experience with 4th gen max/inf), so thought I'd ask you guys about any common issues with these. How easy/hard are these to work on vs 4th gen? The car looks ok, nothing spectacular. Just texted the guy for VIN and some questions (body/mechanical). Are these fun to drive? I'm also looking at G35s, so this being a fwd and all... Appreciate the help.

The chain guide goes and causes a whining noise which can be a very costly repair if you can't do it yourself.
Engine mounts which are electronic.
for my 07' I already had all of these fixed...
These cars are just as easy to work on just as the rest of the maxima depending on your mechanical aptitude.
I'm selling my 07' max with 73k on it for 6k.

I would not, just too many issues with 6th gen. I owned 3rd gen (1989) and 4th gen (1997) and both were great vehicles. My 1989 was given to my oldest son for his high school and college years. Because it was such a great vehicle he purchased a 6th gen (2005). Nothing but trouble with the vehicle because I did most of the repairs. If you can name it we probably replaced it from transmission, timing chain, ABS problems, motor mounts, radiator, ac issues, lower control arms, wheel bearings, and numerous other issues. I understand that the 5th gen are good vehicles. Do not know about the 7th.

I would have to agree, from reading on here, 6th gen seems to be the black sheep of the entire tribe so far. 07-08's seem to be better, but they were stuffed with the CVT, which being a "new" item, probably has it's share of issues. If I had to choose I'd get an 04 6MT. It be nice if they made an MT on 07, the look improved as did the chain tensions, etc.

My 95 and 03 have been absolutely great vehicles. 420k combined miles with minimal issues on either so far.

My 04 has 140K on it, and I would not buy it for $4k. These is the worse maxima I have ever had or my family. I have owned a 96 before this car and it was much better. My parents had had a couple 4ths, a 3rd gen and a 2nd gen. All better cars as far as reliability than my 6th gen.

The 5th gen was the last Maxi made in Japan and the last quality Nissan product, IMO.

73k for 6k? where are you?
I also fixing an 07' max for the oil leak. it is just seeping a little by little, but it is very frustrated to see oil under your car.

Dayum. Thanks for all the feedback, guys. Really appreciate it. I guess I will keep looking... Though Infiniti is no longer a part of the car family, this forum has been a great resource and will continue to be. Thanks again!
