Timing Chain Repair
My 2006 Maxima is having the clicking noise in the engine. I went to the dealership and they recommended having the timing chain replaced for $1,850. After researching this repair the parts are not that expensive but since the engine has to be removed from the car the labor expense makes up most the cost. So, if I proceed with the repair I would just have all the parts replaced to avoid another high labor expense.
I also noted a class action lawsuit in regards to this problem. Does anyone know the status of the lawsuit and if the owners of the Maximas win the case will they likely be reimbursed for repair worked that has been completed or if the work has not been completed will there be a recall to fix the problem?
Please advise on my logic in the first paragraph also.

Timing chain/s can be removed/replaced without removing the engine.
At a minimum I would replace the main timing chain, tensioner, the broken chain guide and water pump. Also be sure and have the shop check the tensioner faces on the camshaft tensioner. Since I had to remove the timing chain cover to replace the broken chain guide I replace the timing chain, all three guides, tensioner, camshaft chains, camshaft tensioner faces and water pump. (I did not replaced the camshaft tensioners since you have to remove the valve covers and camshafts to remove the tensioners.)
Be sure and get in writing what is included in the $1,850 price.
