07 Front end on a 04

Hello, I have a 2004 maxima and it has 131000 miles on it. The timing chain makes a lot of noise and I know what needs to be done to fix that. At the same time the transmission has started to screw up esp when changing from forward to rev and back, (when hot).

Anyway I have a chance to buy a 2007 with 125K miles that has had a rear side collision. The front dog house is undamaged.

I plan to buy the 2007 and just swap the engine and transmission. But also wondered about if the dog house would swap as well.

Has anyone tried to swap them?

I have worked on many cars in my days and have never heard of anyone calling anything on a car "the dog house". WTF may I ask is "the dog house"? You can swap just about everything over from the 07 to the 04 by the way.

Yes you can swap the front end of an 07 to an 04. You would need to swap the hood, headlights, bumper, grill, and the fog lights. They bolt right on. Just remove and replace. You'll just need to rewire the fog lights, as the 04 fogs come integrated in the headlight assembly.

Yes i did it (well it was halfway done when i got the car lol). Just search the forum for all the details and it should be a breeze since you'll already have all the parts

Omniserv, your "serious reply" was actually located in the very first reply to your dog house. errrh, thread. Just about all of the cosmetic stuff (bumper, hood, headlights, grille... uhhh.. the dog house, I guess?) can carryover. Be advised though, since you're looking to swap the transmission, the 07 transmission will not work in your 04, as the 07+ are CVT.

He's taking the Transmission and swapping as well. It should work, just might have to swap some wiring harnesses and such. If the 07 is salvageable, you might consider swapping the 04 parts to the 07 instead of the 07-04. Might be less of a headache.

Cool. Never seen a CVT swapped into an 04-06, didn't know it was feasible. I thought it would be a little involved ie requiring the 07 ECU TCM, harnesses and what not. Hopefully he keeps this thread updated with pictures and progress.

Yeah that's why I recommend using the current car as a donor and replacing the rear end of the 07 with parts from the current car.

I ended up missing getting the 07 because I couldn't verify that the front end would swap in time. Also I was worried about the transmission swapping.

There are a few more 04-07's coming up for sale so I'll have to wait and see which ones will work. I think I'll try to get a 04 or 05.

My next delima is if there's a difference in the transmission on SE vs SL?

It's not the difference between the SE vs SL for the transmission. All SE models come with 5AT, while some not all SL models come with 4AT. You will have to compare the vin #/Transmission part #.

I checked the vins on the vin decoder.
http://forums.maxima.org/vindecoder.php

And it doesn't look like you can tell what the transmission is just from the vin? I could be wrong about that though?

I have never used that, I would just call nissan directly and ask the parts department.
