Transmission Fluid exchange

Hey what's up everyone. Has anybody here done full, 100 percent transmission fluid exchange? I mean by disconnecting return line? Can this be done on 6th gen? I had 97 maxima and it was a no-brainer, not sure about 6th gen. Where is return line? Can it be easily accessed and disconnected? What size is the nipple? 3/8 inch, 1/4 inch or what?

Few requests before you type: please, do not respond with" dude, do not flush, it is bad idea etc., you will screw up seals, dirt will rise up etc.". Also, please, do not respond if you have never done this yourself on this particular model.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

There is not a return line. This trans is supposed to be pretty much a sealed unit. Only a fill line. If you go to Nissan or call them, you can ask them what they hook up to. I am pretty sure they use the same fill like for both fill and drain. I have had them do a flush for me before, just not sure exactly how they did it. I did a drain and fill a couple times and now I just let nissan do it.

Yea, looks like drain and fill is the only option on this model. I guess, 3 times in a row should replace the fluid 100 percent. On 4th gen that I had before, I used return line, so car had to be on ramps only once for transmission fluid service.

Dude you are dumb....

You will never replace 100% of the fluid.

assuming you replace 1/3 of the fluid, you are not replacing 2/3 of the fluid, and the new one mixes with the old one, so next flush, you are throwing away 33% new fuild in thr garbage, only getting 66% effectivenesss,

next time, you are throwing away .54% new fluid, so after 3 flushes you only replaced 70% of the fluid, and still have 30% old fluid.

My numbers probably suck a bit too but you get the point.

I did a 3x drain and refill, and now I do 1x per year drain and refill, no more tranny issues.
You will never get alll the old out.

OK smarta$$, your numbers are right, in theory, of course, it is impossible to replace 100 percent fluid unless transmission is 100 percent dry, you win, here is a cookie for you, happy now?

Now, keep reading, you may learn something new: doing drain and fill 3 times will get about 12 quarts of brand new fluid into the system over the course (about 4 quarts at a time). Do you know what is total transmission fluid capacity for this vehicle?

**Go study page 10 from FSM "Maintenance Section" (MA-10), PROFESSOR, and tell us what numbers you've learned from it** If you want a copy, I will be happy to donate it for you.

doing a drain and fill 3-4 times will do the trick. I think 3 should be enough. If the fluid is anything other than the color of the clean fluid going in, this helps in when to stop doing the drain and fills. I would get a small glass jar to compare each time. Also make sure you are cycling between each gear with each drain and fill. I would say to go as far as driving it until you go through all gears. This will allow the fluid to cycle through the torque converter as well as all the gears. I am going to nissan and having them do it for me next week.

Exactly! 3 times, 4 quarts a pop, and it is very close to full exchange. Practically fresh fluid. Full capacity is 7 and 3/4 quarts INCLUDING torque converter.

I always win.

By the way, I just did a drain and fill and I only drained 2.5 liters, which is approx what I get every time I do it.

Do it 3x, then once a year, and you will not have issues.

Full capacity is way more than that. I think it is more like 12-14 quarts, hold on let me find it.
