Twins or singles

Hay all

Our 6gens have twin mufflers at the rear. I know twins look good. But im thinking about doing a single muffler setup at the rear. Has anyone done this before a single setup.? Are the twins there for a reason as in for backpressure will i loose power going a single setup?

Cheers Kurt

I've seen it on one car and it made the Maxima look like a 4 banging POS. If you like it, do it. I don't, it takes away from the rear I think.

Both are Vibrant Performance options. I listed those since after tons of research I decided it was the best sound IMO - hope this helps buddy

Deus has a single black Vibrant muffler on the back. The vid above shows his setup. You can see he modded his bumper to eliminate the drivers side exhaust cut out. PM him and he can answer your questions.

I like the single exhaust setup in this vid because of that reason. It would look ghetto as fawk if it wasn't that way. I've seen so many cars with single exit exhaust that used to have duals, and it looks so cheap and ghetto. S2000's around here are notorious of looking like this.

My car is a 4 popping POS.

IMO:
For functionality, single 3".
For the look, duals.

This. Single also shaves off some weight so if you're about pure performance then go single. Personally I don't like the look of singles on a 6th gen maybe because I'm used to the dual, or because it would look too much like an Altima, or because I've seen it on Z's and G's and it looks off.

I first saw this on F-bodies in the 90's then on 350s last decade. We always want what we don't have....I wish I had duals on my 5.5

Why would you go pay to make it a single? I mean if it's just something you detach to make a single then yeah, but to have one would just costly

I think people dont like it because your so used to seeing it a certain way. I think my 4th would look terrible with duals but then again I might get used to it after awhile. A dual down to a single just doesnt seem right. If you dont like the look of duals then go single, certainly your choice

Yeh I reckon fixing the second cut out it will look good and you'll get used to it. I prefer single for a few reasons like better flow. Don't mind the look of it. Less pipes-muffler. Only thing I won't to make shore if I go single setup will this affect performance? Only because it was a double standard. Could it possibly be a gain in performance because it's not going through 2 pipes?

I think with the right muffler, a single would look just fine. I like bigger single muffler tips, 3.5-4inch I think if you went with a small 2.5 inch for a single it would look silly.

I like single because it flows better. I also like the cleaner look. I never really like 4 pipes sticking out the back but its just my opinion. A single muffler also weighs less, as pointed out earlier and sounds better since you dont have two competing sounds coming out two mufflers. I had a custom mandrel bent 3 inch pipe leading to a Vibrant muffler with two 14 inch magnaflow pre silencers installed on my car.

One of the selling points for me on my '04 was the twin tip exhaust. I recently put a cat-back system on it, so it now has two 4in tips. I prefer the 4 tip config, so will change later, but the sound of a dual exhaust over single is "heart-rendering". Stick w/ the duals.

Keep it the way it is and possibly change out the mufflers. If you want a better look.

That is all.....
