ok long story short, trans was slipping and mechanic changed it and aparently they didnt put enough fluid in it. when i got it back, i thought they just didnt do it right and its still slipping, since they were 72miles away, i was hesitant to take that trip to bring it back since am in school n needed to car. basicly i been drivin the car wit low trans fluid for 3600miles and i just realised it, i want to know if it caused too much or alot damage to the trans.

the symptoms while the fluid was low was slow response from park to drive, drag from 1st gear to second, the usual

Edit: i should mention that on the dipstick, it was reading about half full, if that helps before i added a quart.

only time will tell, So does it still slip? did you check you fluid before you went in to have it changed? If so was it at the proper level then?

since adding fluid, its shifting a whole lot better, its not slipping but i can tell when its shifting from 1 to 2, i mite be paying a litle too much attentioon to it, so far ive only driven it bout 1 mile, since adding more fluid.

just drive it down the road with the windows rolled up and radio off and watch the rpm and listen to the shift....PAY ATTENTION TO IT! its good to catch it before the repairs get costly. if it slips still you could have another issue

Ok they changed the fluid not the whole trans there may be other things going on

I'm confused by the initial post. Did they change the fluid, or the whole transmission? Because all you said was "they changed it"...leave a lot to be interpreted...

If you really drove 3600mi with low fluid, you may have damaged the 2nd gear or the clutches. But there are still many factors that can cause it to slip. If you have the time, drain the fluid, drop the pan accordingly, and check the magnet for excessive metal shavings. You must change the gasket after this job. If the shavings seem normal, fluid level is good, and linkage is properly adjusted, do a pressure test.

The question is, is half full low enough to cause significant damage to the trans during that time frame

if its not on point its gonna mess up over filling and to little isnt good

If they changed the entire trans and didn't fill it up properly, I would be VERY reluctant to give them any more of your money. They gave you a warranty on their work, yes? Have another REPUTABLE trans shop look at the car, take the quote to the hacks you went to at first, and have them FIX IT.

And yes, half full IS low enough to screw your system up again. If it wasn't, then we wouldn't have to put the full amount in. Would you run your car with half oil?
