Do anyone knows how many pounds/cans of freon you need in the 2004 maxima.

is your car completely empty,
air not blowing cold at all
air just now blowing cold enough

your question is too vague.

if your completely empty 2-3 cans should do it.

Ok so i will put 3 thats good right , is empty my mechanic said and i might have a small lick and the 3 cans i will add he said might last me the whole summer so i will give it a try not costing me nothing so dont hurt to try.

ooh ok, no don't just put in the cans.

go to pep boys or autozone. buy some A/C sealant. it is works like an epoxy and will fill in any leaks you may have. when you are finished with that, put in the 2-3 cans of R-134a and your ac should be fixed permenantly

The correct R134a charge on a 2004 Maxima is between 18.5-20 ounces.

Since each can contains 12 ounces, the installation of two full cans will result in 4 oz. overcharge.

1 1/2 cans is closer to correct.

Ok when I put the sealant in so I have to drain it or do I have just add the 1 1/2 cant of freon after.

I wouldn't advise using any aftermarket sealants.

The refrigerant leak (if you have one) should be repaired properly. Junk in a can won't do that.

Ok then, just read the label and it should tell you how much actual 134a the sealant can contains. They are mostly refrigerant, with a little sealer mixed in.



Subtract that from 18.5.

do NOT put in the stop leak. that ruins your AC system.

you need to find the leak and replace whats leaking. when you use the recharge kits that just stops your problem for a little bit. i GARAUNTEE you it will not last the whole summer without you having to put more in it.

in MOST cases, the 6th gens leak out of the Low Side AC hose where the metal crimp is right behind the front air dam. if that is the cause, get a new hose (like $120 at courtesyparts.com) and get it replaced and recharged by a mechanic with an AC machine. those cans do not have the power to recharge the whole system properly.

and i say get it done by a mechanic because to change the hose, you have to completely purge the system, then install, then recharge.

my shops sees cars come in all the time that had a small leak to begin with and just kept using those recharge kits and it actually made the leak bigger and made the compressor seize up due to the lack of oil and refrigerant. so get it fixed THE RIGHT WAY before your bill goes from 100 + labor to 500-700 + labor.

If you are going to be adding any more than 1/2 a can I suggest getting a set of gauges so you don't damage your system. Probably best to pay a mechanic since a set is $100 or so. It is easy to over pressurize (overfill) the system.

I bought a set of Mastercool gauges and they work well. Only fill with low side open etc.

Oh man i put the stop lick in before i seen any of your post about stop lick missing up your system i hope it dont but for sure it will be the last time i put that thing in the car for sure thanks.

if you only used one can of it, you may be fine... but you need to get it serviced by a licensed mechanic whenever the problem comes back.

i would say replace your hoses, its easy. if you don't know how to do work and you don't want to pay a mechanic then use the stop leak. I've head horror stories, but they were all being used in a situation where stop leak wasn't acceptable.

if you have a small pin hole leak, then use it. My buddy used it in his 67 trans am, and its been solved for 7 years and going. all it is is a liquid that hardens when it reaches air, its an epoxy. it breaks down when its compressed and mixed with R-134a. so it work instantly on your leaks and then the epoxy component become inactive. its not dangerous for your system, if there are no leaks its just doesn't do anything.
